USA Swimming Scholastic All-America Team
Swimmers are known for their hard work both in the pool and in the classroom. We want to give a special congratulations to the following student-athletes for proving their success in both areas and earning USA Swimming Scholastic All-America honors: Morgan Carteaux (Ravenwood), Rob McCall (Ensworth), and Hannah Neilsen (St. Cecilia).
Swimmers must have a Winter Junior National qualifying time and a 3.5 or higher grade point average in order to qualify for this recognition:

You can take a look at the full list of over 1,000 swimmers nationwide who earned a spot on USA Swimming’s Scholastic All-America Team.

Schedule Modifications
Beginning next week there will be some slight modifications to our practice schedule so we can broaden what we offer to our swimmers.

Senior swimmers will begin doing dry-land after their water workouts on Tuesday and Thursday.  Athletes doing dry-land will finish practice at 6:30 on those days.
Junior practices will now begin at 5:50 p.m. and run until 7:40 p.m.

Sharks practices will now begin at 6:00 p.m. and run until 7:40 p.m.  ALL SHARKS will now be able to come to both Monday and Tuesday practices.  Sharks will still need to stick to their Wednesday / Thursday groups for those practice days.  All Sharks remain invited to both Friday and Saturday practices.

Dolphins practice will now begin at 6:00 p.m. and run until 7:30 p.m.

Parents at Practice - Stingray & Dolphin
As we move deeper into the fall season the days are getting shorter and the evenings are getting cooler. The Ensworth School, and hence our facility, is still prohibiting the use of locker rooms (even visiting football teams are arriving dressed and using only restrooms - not locker rooms). Locker rooms will be unavailable to the majority of our team for the foreseeable future.  We did make one exception for athletes coming directly from school for 4 p.m. practices.

Ensworth also continues to have a no visitors policy for all normal operations, including athletic practices. However, the shorter days do present a safety risk to our youngest swimmers in particular, as they are exiting the pool to a dark parking lot. In keeping with Ensworth’s no visitor policy but recognizing the need to do everything we can to keep your children safe, Dolphin and Stingray parents may now enter the facility for the last 20 minutes of their child’s practice and wait for the child to finish from the observation balcony.

Parents taking advantage of this opportunity must:
  • Wear masks at all times in the facility
  • Sit in the bleachers in designated, socially distanced spaces that are marked off
  • Maintain social distance between other parents
  • Exit with their child through the same stairwell the swimmers use on the southeast side of the balcony and pool
Our intention is to allow parents to meet their child on the stairwell, walk with them out of the building and to the car. We ask that parents not use this as an opportunity to watch entire practices or stretch the 20-minute window to 30 or 40 minutes or longer. Our first concern is the safety of your children. We are also obligated to honor Ensworth’s policies during this pandemic. Please feel free to contact Coach Bahr with any questions you may have about this policy change.
Short Course Competitions
USA Swimming just announced locations for the US Open, which will be swum the weekend of November 12 - 14.  Everyone, even the sports governing body, is making last-minute adjustments to meet schedules.  The Baylor meet we had put on our schedule is no longer open to outside teams due to Covid restrictions, and we are having to pivot as well.

Right now we are planning to host a meet the same weekend as the U.S. Open, November 12 - 14.  Our events are always dependent on the availability and good graces of our wonderful volunteers, and that weekend is one we believe we will be able to be fully staffed to operate.  Our school has also just given us permission to allow outside teams to attend meets, so we are currently looking at options for how this would work while maintaining local and school protocols regarding social distancing.  In the meantime, we are also exploring options for having parents either at the meet itself, at the meet but not inside the building (perhaps live streaming on the football field jumbotron), or not at the meet at all.

In the meantime, the coaching staff will plan one or two race day practices on weekends with touchpads in the water to give our athletes a chance to race in a meet type of environment (we were successful with this strategy in July).

Southeastern Swimming coaches are currently planning to discuss how to best facilitate a potential December Championship to build excitement for the USA Swimming 18 & Under Virtual Championships.  We do have a meet bid for December at our pool, but there may be an opportunity for our older swimmers to race against other members of our LSC in a different format.  Again, a lot is up in the air as coaches across our region, and the country, work to create optimal racing opportunities for athletes.  We will share information with you from our LSC once discussions begin to truly begin.

Please keep up with the meet and events page of our website for more information as we work to solidify competitive opportunities.

Personalize Swim Cap Order

There’s nothing worse than having to pay for the same thing twice for your child because they’ve lost something.  When it comes to swim caps, the best way to make sure a lost cap finds its way back to your child is to have their name on it!
We are now taking orders for Personalized Team Caps!  You would be surprised how often they make their way back to swimmers because coaches find them on deck.

We will take orders until October 19th!  Please use this Order Form for details

Official Training

As we anticipate our competition opportunities, it is a wonderful time for parents to get involved and start the online training to become an official.
While we have hosted one sanctioned meet since June 1, we know we will likely need to host many, if not all, meets we compete in for the rest of the year.  We also know that WE NEED OFFICIALS!  One benefit to becoming an official this year is that, if our meets are limited to just our team for a while to come, the sessions you will be required to train during will be SHORTER than most normal meets!  And with the limitations in place on parents / visitors during competitions you will be one of the few to be on deck (hopefully this changes soon because we want our cheering parents back!).

If you have ever considered becoming an official, now is the perfect time to take the first steps.  The future is certainly uncertain, but your kids will race!  It may truly be up to you whether we have the ability to provide the sanctioned racing opportunities your kids will be training for.

GroupMe App

If you have not already joined your swimmers' GroupMe, please consider doing so.  Parents, coaches, and staff use GroupMe to communicate last-minute updates, traffic issues, practice changes, lost and found, carpooling, and much more. Each practice group has its own group text, and we believe if you ask any returning team members, they will confirm that GroupMe is an invaluable communication tool as it enables them to ask specific questions and plan activities particular to their practice group. Use this link to download the GroupMe app.
