Who prays for you? I awakened this morning and sensed that someone had been praying for me. So many of our members tell me they pray for me. I know that in my head but today I felt it in my heart. What do we do when someone asks us to pray for them?
Pharaoh needed prayer. As the leader of Egypt, he was worshiped as a god. But God made Moses “like God to Pharaoh.” This came in response to Moses saying, “Why would Pharaoh listen to me?” (Exodus 6:28-7:1). Moses was the surrogate for God in the war of wills with Pharaoh. The Egyptian king was not really fighting Moses and Aaron but God himself. Isn’t it interesting that he asked Moses to pray for him?
We all need others to pray for us every day. One of the songs which spoke to me in the last few years and came back to me this morning was the old country song by Ricky Skaggs, “Somebody’s praying. I can feel it. Somebody’s praying for me. Mighty hands are guiding me to protect me from what I can’t see. Somebody’s praying for me.”
For whom will we pray today? The persons who seem farthest from God may very well be the people who most need our prayers right now. If someone asks, or even if they don’t, by all means pray for someone today. We know for sure that every one of us is “standing in the need of prayer.” If we pray, then someone who thinks they don’t have a prayer, will actually have one.
