This month, Cheerful Helpers will be on Spring Break from Monday, April 14th to Friday, April 18th. If you’re staying local and looking for ideas to fill your Spring Break with fun, look no further! Here are 10 different things you can do this Spring Break:
Visit Your Local Library
The Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) has 72 branches throughout the city. You could visit your local neighborhood library or make a trip to the Central Branch Library in Downtown! Explore LAPL's headquarters' eight floors and stop by for storytime.
Have Some Sensory Fun!
Have you ever run your fingers across bubble wrap covered with shaving cream? When is the last time you played in a bin of kinetic sand or slime? Spring Break is a great time to spend a couple of hours working together to create a fun, stimulating sensory experience. Check out our past courier video on sensory bins with Maria!
Visit Griffith Observatory
The Griffith Observatory and planetarium offers free admission to all to come in and explore. From its free public telescopes to its planetarium shows, the Griffith Observatory engages kids of all ages! The lawn space makes a great picnic spot for those looking to spend time outdoors.
Cook Up Kid-Friendly Fun!
Did you know that our Cooking Center has been a hit with the students? This Spring Break, try making any one of the recipes that has been Cheerful Helpers approved! How about trying out recipes like hummus or mochi or even making a new recipe of your own!
Visit the California Science Center
Just a hop, skip and a jump away from Cheerful Helpers, the California Science Center is a fun way to spend a day during the break. Not only does the California Science center have multiple permanent exhibits, they also have a cafe, a big gift shop, and a Rose Garden! The California Science Center offers a guide on what to explore based on your scientist’s learning style.
Check Out the Animals at the LA Zoo
The Los Angeles Zoo provides a unique way to learn about our furry, feathery and scaly friends around the world. Marked as a sensory inclusive space, the LA Zoo is equipped with sensory bags that include things like headphones and fidget tools as well as a Sensory Support room offering a safe and quiet environment for those who need a break.
Visit Local Parks
Fun fact: there are over 400 parks in Los Angeles. There is probably one in your neighborhood! There is definitely one far away from your neighborhood. Whether you choose to stay near or go far, planning a visit to a park is always available.
Adopt a Caterpillar at Kidspace
Located in Pasadena, the Kidspace Museum is an indoor and outdoor kids’ museum. From now until May 18th, it is officially Butterfly Season, and Kidspace in addition to having spring-themed activities, is giving kids the opportunity to adopt their own caterpillar to take home and raise for an adoption fee of $8.
Visit Travel Town
Located in Griffith Park, Travel Town is a free train museum full of vintage and retired trains – you may be lucky and catch some ongoing restorations. While in Travel Town, catch a ride on the miniature train for $3 per person!
Enjoy Some Water Play!
As the weather gets warmer, water play is always a fun option to cool down and engage in play. Here are two options to try out over spring break– make a water sensory bin by filling a bin or tub with water and adding in various items like cups, scoops, sponges, and toys (for pouring, scooping and splashing) and / or 2) use brushes or sponges to paint on a sidewalk or pavement with water.
What other ideas can you come up with?
