 Nahum 1:15
Look, there on the mountains,
    the feet of one who brings good news,
    who proclaims peace!
Celebrate your festivals, Judah,
    and fulfill your vows.
No more will the wicked invade you;
    they will be completely destroyed.
New International Version (NIV)
                 Are Christians the “bad news” people or the “good news” people?  Bad news travels at the speed of light.  To paraphrase a quote about truthfulness, we might say, “Bad news will make it all the way around the world before good news gets its shoes on.”  Why are we so quick to repeat the bad news?

                Nahum preached bad news against Nineveh the enemy of Israel.  The Ninevites who had taken God’s people captive would finally receive their punishment for their unkindness to the Israelites.  Nevertheless, Nahum was no nattering naybob of negativism.  He knew the Lord as a good refuge for the troubled who cares for those who trust him (1:7).

                Messengers in the ancient world ran as fast as they could to bring the good news.  People watched from the wall to see them coming, predicting whether the news would be good or bad.  Nahum envisioned a messenger running up with the good news of peace.  In his letter to the Romans, Paul would echo this passage and Isaiah 52:7 as he wrote about the good news of salvation.  “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news” (Romans 10).

                Today, be on the lookout for good news.  When you hear it, be sure to pass it on.  Here is good news:  we were worse off than we thought and more loved than we ever dreamed.  Go and tell it on the mountain!

Pray with me:
Father, make our feet beautiful today.  Let us bring the fragrance of life and echo of joy as we spread the good news today.  Let the good news of the gift of salvation cover the world as waters cover the sea, we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
   This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
