The Saklan School. Pre-K Through 8. think. act. live
Dear ECE Parents,
After careful consideration and thoughtful preparation, The Saklan School has decided to open our ECE program this August. I want to thank the COVID-19 Task Force, Health and Safety Committee, and the ECE teachers for their help and support during this process.
Next week, we will share specifics regarding our ECE health protocols and procedures. That said, some of the significant factors in this decision were that children of ECE age are infected at a significantly lesser rate than the adult population and do not appear to be “viral vectors” of COVID-19. Furthermore, we will move the majority of our program to outdoor spaces.
To have a safe and stressless opening, we will be adjusting our schedule. August 19th - 21st will be set aside for individual parent and student visits. This change will help students acclimate back to the classroom while also prepare everyone for the new protocols. From the 24th until the 28th, we will have half-days starting at 8:30 am and ending at noon with no extended day. Starting on August 31st, we will resume the regular class schedule from 8:30 am - 2 pm. Extended day will be offered until 4 pm, but there will be no early morning drop-off. By mid-September, we will evaluate our extended day program and may lengthen it. We will be adding in a few days at the end of the year to make up for the missed instructional time.
There will be more detailed information to come next week, along with an opportunity to schedule your visit. If you would like to learn more about the relationship between COVID-19 and young children, this UCSF Medical Grand Rounds is instructional (pertinent information starts at around 14 minutes).
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
Stay well my friends,
David
