Revelation 19:7-12
Let us rejoice and be glad
    and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
    and his bride has made herself ready.
Fine linen, bright and clean,
    was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)
Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”
 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”
I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war.  His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.

               Who is ready for Christ’s return?  “Give me oil in my lamp; keep it burning...”  Remember that song?   Jesus told a parable about a wedding and the bridesmaids waiting for the groom to arrive.  Some used up all their oil and were shut out when the groom finally came to the feast.  In Revelation John hears the angels sing about the great wedding of the ages when Christ, the bridegroom marries his bride the church. 
                I always think of this passage when we gather for a wedding ceremony.  No matter how many weddings we officiate and tend in this lifetime, someday all believers will be gathered as the bride with Jesus as the greatest groom of all.  There will be a full supper after the wedding. 
                This chapter gives the distinct impression that heaven will sometimes be loud.  In addition to voices that sound like a waterfall, the angels themselves are awesome.  In fact, John was tempted to worship the angel but the angel said, “I am a fellow servant.”  Surely C. S. Lewis had this in mind when he said that if we could see each other the way we will someday be, we would be tempted to bow in worship. 
                Imagine John’s joy when he sees King Jesus on a white horse.  The names of Jesus become more clear.  He is Faithful and True.  He knows his own name.  His name is the Word of God.  On his robe and thigh are written King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  Jesus comes to the final battle but the outcome has already been determined.  As my friend Pastor Colbert in Galveston prays, “God you can do anything but fail.”  The risen Lord Jesus, King of the universe will someday end all battles with the sword of his word which comes out of his mouth. 
                Are we ready?  Once Jesus returns it will be too late to start getting ready.  But if we stay ready for Christ’s return, we will never have to get ready.  
Pray with me:         
Father, with the angels we say, “Hallelujah!  Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.”  Yes, we praise you as your servants.  You alone reign without rival in the universe.  We rejoice and we are glad as we give you glory.  Help us, your bride, to be ready for your return.  Help us to worship you today.  We can’t wait until Sunday to praise you.  So we start right now.  Receive our worship, rightful King.  We wait for your victory over evil.  We wait for you Lord, more than watchmen wait for the morning.  Make us ready.  Find us awake we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
