Hi Neighbor!
The other night my husband and I sat on the couch wearing slightly dazed expressions (a day of homeschooling, upended routines and messy kids will do that to you) while watching a mind-numbing reality show. In one scene, the show’s cast members strutted into a packed restaurant, sat down and proceeded to argue their way through dinner and endless rounds of drinks. At one point my husband turned to me and said, “Remember when we used to go out to dinner?” I thought of our favorite family restaurant in Wayne and how I used to play tic-tac-toe with my middle daughter until our food came. It felt like a lifetime ago.

Sometimes I can’t believe how much my world has shrunk in a matter of weeks. Things I did without a second thought—like going out to eat, taking a class at the gym or popping into a local shop—now feel fraught with risk. (And literally impossible—everything’s closed!) It’s an especially tough time for small businesses; many have closed their doors, laid off employees and been forced to reinvent their business models overnight just to survive.

MainLine Neighbors wants to help. We recently launched a special promotional section called LOCAL LOVE. If you’re a local small business or restaurant with a special announcement, update or new services to share—such as virtual classes, expanded delivery options or gift card promos—just e-mail us and we’ll publish your message on our Web site or in our newsletters FOR FREE! (You can also sign up here to join our Web site as a business member, and we'll waive the yearly fee.)

Readers can show small businesses and local restaurants some love by purchasing gift cards, ordering takeout (and tipping generously), shopping local online when possible and rescheduling (rather than cancelling) appointments.
Much love,
Kate

Kimberton Whole Foods started as a small store on a biodynamic dairy farm in Chester County in 1986. Over the past thirty years, we’ve grown to six natural grocery stores that are committed to organic and fair food, and local agriculture.

It’s our priority to keep our customers and team members safe. The next time you shop, here’s how you can do your part:
  1. Limit shopping to one family member whenever possible.
  2. Keep a safe distance from other shoppers and team members.
  3. Observe the product limits posted in-store.
  4. Bag your own groceries when you bring your own reusable bags.
  5. Stay at home if you are sick.
Delivery trucks are coming to our stores daily, and our team is working diligently to restock. You'll find our produce department filled with fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, a well-stocked fresh meat department with a variety of chicken, beef, pork and fresh fish options, and shelves filled with everyday grocery and household essentials. This couldn't be done without the dedication and extraordinary efforts of our team members, buyers, warehouse team, and distribution partners.

OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL (VIRTUALLY) GO
Just because you’re practicing social distancing doesn’t mean you have to stop exploring. Besides, virtual tours are definitely having a moment right now.

Wander the Musee d’Orsay in Paris. Explore this renowned French museum that houses dozens of famous works by Monet, Cézanne, Gauguin and others.

Hike Japan’s Mt. Fuji.
Bonus: This tour won’t leave you breathless!

The Great Wall of China Awaits!
Explore one of the most phenomenal ancient structures on the planet—minus the crowds.

Experience Bruce Canyon National Park in Utah. Savor a star-filled night sky, check out the park’s unique rock formations and take a horseback ride through the canyon.

Easter Island in Chile. Get up close and personal with one of the most remote places in the world known for its collection of giant stone statues (called moai).
COOKING WHILE QUARANTINED
I’m cooking more than ever these days, and I’m starting to get bored with my regular recipe rotation. Here are a few links to spice things up:

24 one-pan dishes from the New York Times. I often steer clear of NYT recipes (too fussy and time consuming) but these are ON POINT. Side note: The Creamy Mac and Cheese is everything.
• Jenny Rosenstrach of Dinner: A Love Story just launched a new series called Project, Pantry, Purpose where she shares (among other things) simple, delicious meals that you can make from ingredients found in your pantry. Nothing too complicated here, which I find an ideal antidote to all the chaos outside.
89 Recipes, each with 5 ingredients or less. You’re welcome.
• I’m also a big fan of sheet pan dinners, especially lately when the dishes seem to pile up by the second. This and this are household favorites.
JUST FOR FUN!
