| Faculty Spotlight - Ellen Lippman
Yes, you may find a dog in the classroom with Professor Lippman – at one time they were guide dogs in training and now on occasion a St. Bernard rescue. Ellen Lippman holds the John Becic Distinguished Professorship in Accounting position at the University of Portland's Pamplin School of Business. She earned her B.A. from Colorado College, her M.S. in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin (Madison), and her Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Oregon. She is a Certified Public Accountant and specializes in teaching financial accounting and auditing. Her recent research interests include analyzing the ethical responsibilities of accountants. Her publications in this area include the Journal of Business Ethics, the Accounting History Journal, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Professor-Practitioner Cases, and the Accounting Historians Journal. Her published work won the Innovation in Accounting History Education award. Using her accounting expertise and governance interest, Ellen serves on the audit committee of a large health organization as well as the finance committees of several local nonprofits. She enjoys mentoring students and has coached student teams that have won accounting competitions at the regional and national levels. And while Ellen thinks accounting is a great field, she was unable to convince her children to study accounting. She's hoping for better success with her students!
