Launching this winter, the “Homeroom” series includes Tan meeting with select schools around the country to provide tailored workshops with student leaders at each school. He will address topics such as how to address bullying, racism, and anti-blackness; how to promote cross-cultural learning, and how to get their schools on board in implementing meaningful diversity and inclusion programs.
If this is something that your student is interested in being a part of, we have 7 student spots and 1 faculty spot available for Wednesday December 9th in the morning to meet virtually with Tan on anti bullying and anti racism. Please fill out this Google Form.

Parent Education Resources of the week - Topic: Stress
Let the countdown begin!
There is no question about it. 2020 has been a rough year. The countdown is on for a fresh start in 2021. Unfortunately, it looks like we aren't out of the woods yet. We are seeing increased stress in our teens and a number of other health factors being affected.
Stress during an infectious disease outbreak can sometimes cause the following:
Fear and worry about your own health and the health of your loved ones, your financial situation or job, or loss of support services you rely on.
Changes in sleep or eating patterns.
Difficulty sleeping or concentrating.
Worsening of chronic health problems.
Worsening of mental health conditions.
Increased use of tobacco, and/or alcohol and other substances.
We encourage you to be extra aware of these signs that your student may need additional support.
Talk to your teen about how they are feeling. Offer to cook their favorite dinner together or go for a walk. Getting outside and getting some exercise can really boost your mood even for 10 minutes a day! The below link will provide some great articles to help encourage healthy habits during this difficult time and offer tips to help teens in particular cope with this difficult time. And remember, most importantly, reach out to your community, friends and family if you need support or help with your concerns.

Attendance Updates:
Because of the importance of student attendance, Inglemoor will now be notifying parents/guardians of daily absences using our Robo Call system. If your child is going to be absent, please email the attendance office (ihsattendance@nsd.org) prior to the absence or no later than 48 hours after the absence.
If your child engages asynchronously, the Robo Call will be a reminder that your student has work to complete and after completing the work, they should email the teacher confirming that the assignment was completed asynchronously.
Wednesdays are still school days. Even though there are no live sessions for students, they are expected to work asynchronously on homework or other assignments. Teachers still take attendance on Wednesdays, and they only way a student can be marked absent is if they miss their scheduled office hours meeting with a teacher. If you receive a robo call about your student on Wednesday evening, it is due to them missing this scheduled office hour meeting.
Just a friendly reminder that Parents/Guardians need to excuse their student's absences within 48 hours of the absence occurring. To excuse, please call 425-408-7210 or email ihsattendance@nsd.org or pkartchner@nsd.org with your students first and last name, ID # and what periods/days they will be missing so our attendance secretary can correctly code it. Thank you!
Please email ihsattendance@nsd.org if you have any questions regarding this process. Thank you for your continued support through these unprecedented times.

News From the School Nurse:
Changes in Immunization Requirements:
Starting August 1, 2020, all immunization records turned in to schools or childcare centers are required by state law to be medically verified. This means immunization records turned in to the school must be from a health care provider, or you must attach paperwork from a health care provider to your handwritten form that shows your child’s records are accurate. In addition, a complete immunization history is required prior to school attendance – there is no longer a 30-day grace period to submit missing vaccination dates.
Only health care provider verified vaccination records are accepted; we can no longer accept parent reported vaccination dates.
We can no longer grant a 30-day grace period to assemble missing records.
Parents and guardians of students whose records are out of compliance will be notified by the school nurse. Please follow up with your health care provider and submit updated records by email or fax (contact info below).
Please know that students will be unable to receive in-person instruction until their required immunizations are completed and appropriate documentation is submitted.
If your child already meets immunization requirements and has records on file with the school, you do not need to do anything. If you aren’t sure, compliance can be checked online at MyIR.net or by checking with your health care provider.
If you have further questions or concerns, please contact the Inglemoor High School Nurses.

News from the IB Coordinators:
Congratulations Viking families on completing our first quarter remotely. We are continuing to learn, monitor and adjust our instruction and we continue to appreciate your patience, flexibility and support.
Much of our time has been devoted to registering students for the May 2021 examination session. To date, 252 students have registered for exams. Students were sent an electronic summary of their registration this past week and were asked to review for accuracy.
The IB global community is well aware of the challenges our students face and have adjusted the examination requirements accordingly. For most every subject they have eliminated some content and reduced the number of questions that students will need to answer. This is welcome news, particularly for Northshore teachers who can now reduce content during Northshore Learns 3.0. The Coordinators will continue to monitor the 2021 examination situation and provide our administrative team with any updates or changes.
We are reassured by the fact that the results of the 2020 examinations were consistent with the results over our 21-year history of the program, that is to say they were excellent. 74 of 82 Diploma Candidates earned their IB Diplomas, a pass rate of 90.6%. More significantly, of the 78 students that were able to complete all of the DP requirements, 74 scored enough points to earn the Diploma, a pass rate of 94.9%. The average pass rate for the previous five years is 92.3%. The average Diploma score was 32 points. The average score for the previous five years is 31.4 percent.
A total of 231 students completed 835 examinations in 29 different subjects. The average exam score for 2020 was 5.05 (out of 7). The average score for the previous five years is 4.95. Of the 231 students, 224 achieved a score of 4 or more on at least one exam, which means that 97% of all students who took exams in 2020 passed at least one exam. This is important because legislation passed in Washington State in 2019 directed public state colleges to award credit for IB exams score of 4 and above.
We are committed to supporting your students and to help provide some sense of routine and normalcy in these sad and troubled times.
With appreciation and gratitude to the Inglemoor community.

From the ASB:
ASB Cards Many students and families have reached out to us about purchasing ASB cards. Currently, ASB cards can only be purchased for students who are involved in a club that is attending conferences or competing. ASB card fees will be assessed to individual student accounts as the club member names are provided to us from the advisors. This year, cards will be broken up into semester 1 and semester 2. Each semester will have a $30 ASB card. This means that if a club or activity only competes during one semester the student will only be charged $30 for the semester that their club or activity is competing in. This formula will also be applied to sports when they begin as well.
As we enter different stages in the Northshore Learning Model Status, ASB cards may be available for purchase by all students. We will continue to update you as we enter new stages.
Clubs and Common Interest Groups: Club & Common Interest Group meetings are starting! All Vikings are encouraged and welcome to join any of our 40+ student organizations. Here is the full list of IHS student organizations meeting times & days: 2020-2021 Club Info. Students, don't worry if you missed any information sessions, you can watch Club Information Session Recordings by signing in with your student email and contact advisors with questions.
You are also welcome to form your own club or Common Interest Group! Just follow the steps outlined on the ASB Website.
For any questions around ASB cards, activities or clubs please contact Elisabeth Kowalski ekowalski@nsd.org

PTSA needs you! We welcome everyone to join the PTSA. School looks different this year, and the needs are different. PTSA is actively responding to the different needs, finding new ways to support students, their families, and teachers. We would love your help and input. Join PTSA today, membership is $15 for an individual, or $28 for a family membership.
General Members meeting. Our next PTSA General Meeting is Thursday, November 19th at 7:00PM, via Zoom. The Zoom link will be posted on the PTSA Calendar page on Nov. 19th. Reflections is still on!
Art is not cancelled! 😊 Fortunately, creativity is still possible in 2020 and the Reflections Program is still happening, and will be virtual.
PTSA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity. Students of all grades and abilities may participate by submitting original pieces of work in 6 categories: Dance, Musical Composition, Visual Arts, Film, Literature and Photography.
Students create a work of art and write a short artist statement. Judging is based on both the artwork and artist statement. Students artwork will be judged at the Local Council level, and may continue on to the State level, and even the National PTA level. Regardless of where a student places, our PTA will celebrate any student artist who submits a piece of art for Reflections.
Students create an artwork inspired by this year’s very fitting theme - “I matter because…”
