2025 Wisconsin State Horse Expo
The State 4-H Horse Expo is an annual event for all youth enrolled in the 4-H Horse Program and draws hundreds of youth and horses. Youth participate in a wide variety of educational project and riding competitions focused on horse experience. The Sauk County 4-H Horse & Pony project had members compete last month. Here's what they had to say!
Emmylou, Skillet Creek 4-H Club: I really enjoyed participating in the 2025 WI State Horse Expo. I learned a lot, as this was my first time being able to canter/lope at the show. It was a tough competition, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It is very exciting, and sometimes stressful (in a good way, if that makes sense) and I love to make new friends, and talk to other girls and boys my age that have the same passion for horses that I do! I love being part of a team, and having to work together throughout the weekend. I placed Top Ten in 2 of my classes, English/Hunt Showmanship, and Trail-In-Hand, and got 2 more Top Ten ribbons for Team Horse Judging, where we can practice how to judge a horse. Everyone is so nice there, and I look forward to showing there again soon!
Natalie, Prairie Busy Badgers 4-H Club: Wisconsin State 4H Horse and Pony Expo 2025 was an amazing time for everyone. Aside from winning fancy ribbons we got to do lots of fun things that brought everyone closer together. These events include going to dinner at a team and doing a team judging event and we came up as a top ten team. We had a very fun time bonding over our love of horses. I was very excited for Emmylou, my horseless horse exhibitor, to help coach and meteor do good and have her hard work pay off.
Emma, Prairie Busy Badgers club: I really enjoyed my first trip to the State 4H Horse Expo! I made new friends and was able to reconnect with ones I made earlier this year at different horse shows. I enjoyed spending time with and cheering on Natalie, Emmylou and Rachel in their events as they did the same for me.
I had a very successful first year with a Grand Champion in Western Showmanship and Top 10 placings in English Showmanship, English Equitation, Trail in Hand, Trail, and Team Judging.
Rachel, Baraboo Valley 4-H Club: This is my final year as a 4-H Horse Youth member. Being part of this program has been an incredible journey. I’ve loved participating in pleasure, trail, and showmanship classes at the 4-H Horse Expo, and I’m proud to have earned Top 10 ribbons in many of the events I competed in—including photography, judging, and problem solving.
The support I’ve received from my club has meant so much to me. I’m truly grateful for all the encouragement, friendships, and memories. As I wrap up this chapter, I want to wish my fellow members all the best in the future. Keep riding strong!
