Cavalier Football Makes History in Final Home Game |
|
|
In an unforgettable “Salute to Service Game,” Walsh University NCAA Football (5-5, 4-4) made history by defeating the G-MAC leaders, Ashland University (7-3, 7-1), with a 24-10 victory on Saturday afternoon at Larry Staudt Field. This marked Walsh’s first-ever win over Ashland, highlighting the team’s resilience and determination, giving the team its best record since joining the NCAA Division II. The game also honored veterans and active military members, with a special recognition of their service during the event. Football alumni joined in the celebration, lining the tunnel as the team took the field for the final home game of the season.

Walsh University marked an important milestone with the grand opening and blessing of its new Veterans Lounge in the Paul and Carol David Family Campus Center on Friday. This dedicated space offers veteran students a place to study, connect, and feel an integral part of the campus community. The lounge is a testament to Walsh’s commitment to supporting the personal and academic needs of veterans, ensuring their continued success. The celebration coincided with Walsh’s Veterans Day Ceremony, featuring a Color Guard and speakers, honoring, and expressing deep gratitude for the service of veterans from all branches of the U.S. military and the Coast Guard. Late Night Volleyball Unites Cavaliers for Fun Competition! |

|
Last weekend, Walsh University students came together for an exciting “Late Night Volleyball” tournament, organized by Walsh Intramurals and the Volleyball Club. Founded this year by Robby Klockner, the Volleyball Club hosted this fun, unique event, with 8 teams and around 55 participants. The double-elimination tournament kicked off at 10:15 p.m. and ended in an intense championship match at 1:30 a.m. between the men’s rugby team and the men’s soccer team, with soccer emerging victorious 25-22. The event was a hit, drawing both athletes and non-athletes, and the Volleyball Club hopes this will become an annual tradition. Interested in joining? Walsh University Awarded U.S. Department of Justice Grant for Middle School Violence Intervention and Prevention Program |
Walsh University, in partnership with Canton City Schools, has been awarded a $652,707 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance to implement a Canton City Middle School Violence Intervention and Prevention Program. The program, which will run through September 30, 2027, aims to address school-based conflict and students’ socio-emotional needs in Canton City Middle Schools through a trauma-informed, restorative approach that empowers students and staff. | Read More

As Walsh University’s Executive Director of Cross Enterprise Operations, Dr. Dan Passerini plays a pivotal role in shaping the University's innovative programs, including the Skilled Technical Workforce (STWF) initiative. This initiative, which has been recognized for its impact on regional economic development, is featured in Team NEO’s Vibrant Economy Index report. The program is helping bridge critical workforce gaps in Northeast Ohio, particularly in response to challenges highlighted by a recent Moody’s report, which predicts slow growth in key economic indicators for the region by 2030. Dr. Passerini’s work aligns with Team NEO’s efforts to train and retain talent in the region, contributing to the development of a skilled workforce ready to drive future growth. | Read More

Professor Jennifer Vokoun, Director of the Center for Sustainable Food Design, presented at the eFOOD24 International Food Design and Food Studies Conference, held at Elisava Barcelona School of Design and Engineering in Barcelona, Spain, on Nov. 7. She was joined by Audrey Bennett and Ron Eglash from the University of Michigan. Their presentation, “Towards a Wicked Solution to Food Insecurity: An Ethnographic Study of Sustainable Food Design Outcomes,” was based on the book Critical Mapping for Sustainable Food Design: Food Security, Equity, and Justice, co-authored by Bennett and Vokoun. The presentation highlighted their research on innovative strategies to address food insecurity through sustainable and equitable design practices.

On Nov. 1st, Dr. Amy J. Heston and Dr. Toni Nicoletti from Oberlin College presented their work as AI pioneers at private institutions at the 2024 NEXT Conference at The University of Akron. Their presentation was titled “AI Strategies for New Directions in Learning: Pioneering Successful Pathways”

On Nov. 1st, Dr. Amy J. Heston and Dr. Neil G. Walsh presented AI innovation and student success at the 2024 NEXT Conference at The University of Akron. Their presentation was titled “Designing Our First AI Course on Campus: Trail Blazing for Student Success.”

On Oct. 28th, Dr. Amy J. Heston and Dr. R. Joel Farrell II, Vice Provost of IE at Texas Tech U Health Sci Center, gave a national panel on their progress in institutional effectiveness and the role of AI in assessment as part of the Grand Challenges in Assessment group at the 2024 Assessment Institute at Indiana University Indianapolis. Their presentation was titled “Grand Challenges in Assessment: Visible and Actionable Findings to Drive Innovation.”
