Dear 4-H Families:
As some of you know, I spent time from Thanksgiving through Dec 3 as a adult advisor for the youth from Wisconsin who attended the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia. One of the days that struck me was a community service day. All of the 750 youth and adults at congress participated in an opportunity to give back to the Atlanta community for hosting us. I lead the group to the Books for Africa.
I mention this because this time of the year is a great time to share your talents and abilities with your community and show kindness. Engaging in community service can have a profound impact on both the community and the individual. It fosters a sense of connection, empathy, and responsibility. Acts of kindness, whether big or small, can brighten someone's day and create a ripple effect of positivity.
Here are a few ways you can get involved in community service and spread kindness:
|
- Volunteer at Local Shelters: Help out at homeless shelters, food banks, or animal shelters. Your time and effort can make a big difference.
- Participate in Clean-Up Drives: Join or organize community clean-up events to help keep your neighborhood clean and green.
-
Support Local Businesses: Shop locally and support small businesses. This helps boost the local economy and fosters a sense of community.
- Mentor or Tutor: Offer your skills and knowledge to help others, whether it's tutoring students or mentoring someone in your field.
-
Random Acts of Kindness: Simple gestures like paying for someone's coffee, writing a thank-you note, or helping a neighbor with groceries can go a long way.
|
Do you have any specific interests or skills you'd like to use in your community service efforts? Think about working on those with your club to make an impact in your community.
Until next time,
Marie

Leipsic (Cole Hemling) - The Leipsic 4-H Club has been busy helping others this past month. Members collected over 40 toys for the local toy bank to help children in need. They also cleaned up County Road DE and the Leipsic Cemetery, with over 10 members volunteering their time. In addition, the club sent care packages to local veterans as a thank you for their service during the National 4-H Week.
Looking ahead, the Leipsic 4-H Club plans to spread holiday cheer by caroling at retirement homes in December and also volunteering for the Second Harvest Food Drive. The Leipsic 4-H Club meets at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at the St. Katharine Drexel Parish Center. New members are always welcome!

Watertown Badgers (Kallista McKenzie) - Our group put together a hot coco and chocolate goodie bags we even added sugar free options. Kallista McKenzie and Emi Riley delivered them to Clearview retirement home on Nov 26, just in time for Thanksgiving and the cold weather to come. We all hope that everyone who is staying at the Clearview retirement home enjoys the hot coco treats.

Beef Quality Assurance - Wisconsin in-person meeting dates |
BQA does more than help beef producers capture more value from their cattle: BQA provides a positive public image and instills consumer confidence in the beef industry. When producers implement the best management practices of a BQA program, they ensure the cattle they sell are the best they can be. Consumer research, conducted by the Beef Checkoff, shows that learning about BQA made consumers more confident in beef safety and animal welfare and improved positive consumer perceptions of how cattle are raised for food. There are trainings scheduled in Watertown and Lomira. Check out the link below.

Changes to auction lots
The DYAC has voted to adjust auction lots for the Dodge County Dairy Youth Recognition Auction on Sunday of the Dodge County Fair. We will change the wording of "best registered bred and owned of all breeds" to "best registered bred and owned cow." We will add in a lot for "best registered bred and owned heifer." We will also add in "first-year showman" as a lot. Since all showmanship classes will be represented, we voted to remove the "supreme dairy showman" lot. All other lots will remain the same.
