On April 24, 2024 at 8:01 p.m., the Department of Campus Safety received a report of an attempted robbery. The incident occurred at around 7:40 p.m. on the northeast entrance of Washington Square Park, in Manhattan.
The victim, an NYU student, was exiting the park through the northeast entrance when the suspect approached the victim, called them an obscene name, told the victim to fight them and then began to tug on their backpack. There was pulling back and forth for the backpack, and eventually the victim was able to retain the backpack and flee to Weinstein Hall. The victim did not observe which way the suspect fled and did not sustain any injuries.
Description of Suspect: The suspect is described as male presenting, light complexion, 5'-6" tall, in their mid twenties to early thirties, with shoulder length blonde hair, wearing a baseball cap, t-shirt and shorts.
