Love & Joy to You from CFC!

A message from Marlene…
Dear friends,
This is my last newsletter to you, having spent the last 10 years or so of my career leading this wonderful organization, Catholic Family Center. During this time, we have weathered many storms, but loyal supporters like you, and my wonderful staff, never cease to inspire me to find new and enduring ways to solve the challenges our clients face as they walk their paths towards safety, health, and independence.

But, the good work of this agency will continue! What a joy to see our mission in the Rochester community evolve to Catholic Charities Family and Community Services. My team is even now creating new ways to communicate with you, and easy ways for you to make the transition with us as we join together with our sister agency, Catholic Charities Community Services.

Over the years, I have fallen in Love with our mission to embrace those struggling with poverty, and those who need us the most. It has been a privilege to serve in this role and to see the lasting and positive impact Catholic Family Center has had in our community.

For now, I would like to leave you all with a Christmas wish from one of my favorite prayers. It is often referred to as the “Arrupe” prayer, attributed to Pedro Arrupe, SJ: Fall in Love

Nothing is more practical than
finding God, than
falling in Love
in a quite absolute, final way.
What you are in love with,
what seizes your imagination, will affect everything.
It will decide
what will get you out of bed in the morning,
what you do with your evenings,
how you spend your weekends,
what you read, whom you know,
what breaks your heart,
and what amazes you with joy and gratitude.
Fall in Love, stay in love,
and it will decide everything.

May you always find the opportunity to fall in Love and stay in Love.

In gratitude for all you have done,
Marlene
President & CEO
Special Thank you

Refugee Resettlement

Since August, Catholic Family Center has helped welcome nearly 200 refugees from Afghanistan with the help of our community and volunteers. With the support from your donations and our partner, Saint’s Place, we have had the opportunity to help our new neighbors settle comfortably in their homes as they build their new future here in Rochester.

Spotlight on a Program: Our Shelters

Thanks to a $4.2M grant from HHAP (Homeless Housing and Assistance Program) and a $250K operational grant from ESSHI (Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative,) Catholic Family Center celebrated the opening of Joseph Avenue Apartments, 9 incremental Permanent Supportive Housing apartments in the City of Rochester. We are also celebrating the significant renovation of our Francis Center shelter for men, which re-opened earlier this year.
