Black Friday. Cyber Monday. But did you know about Giving Tuesday? Now in its fourth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season and has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving, philanthropy and resources to do more.

Here at sf.citi, we want to offer you and your company resources for giving back in San Francisco as part of #GivingTuesday. We hope you'll consider these special nonprofits and their efforts when you give back this holiday season. We'll be sharing our own efforts to give back this year using our #OneCitySF campaign. Use the hashtags #OneCitySF and #MyGivingStory to join us!

8 Ways to Give Back on Giving Tuesday
  1. This holiday season HealthRIGHT 360 is focusing on programs that support the mother-child bond. Every day, women come to HealthRIGHT360 for help and many of these women are mothers who struggle with problems that have disrupted their lives, such as a history of incarceration, substance use and/or mental illness, and homelessness. By donating to the organization's women’s programs this December, you can support a mother in recovery and, in turn, a healthy child. Consider helping women to get clean, be healthy, and have a positive influence on their children’s lives. Click here to help!

  2. On Wednesday December 16, Project Homeless Connect will host its 61st event. This one-stop service event connects homeless individuals to vital resources including health care, employment assistance, and basic necessities. Join sf.citi and participate as a volunteer or a donor here.

  3. As part of the San Francisco Firefighters Annual Toy Program, this year you can donate to the ethnic doll drive. The firefighters are collecting 400 dolls of color to donate to the African American Art, and Culture Complex for their annual holiday party for kids. You can bring dolls -- or any other new toys -- to any SF firehouse, and can donate specifically to the doll campaign here.

  4. The Institute on Aging will host its 31st Annual Cable Car Caroling event this Sunday, December 6th. The event and after-party are sold out, but it's not too late to sponsor a singer or make a contribution to this incredible day for isolated seniors in our area.

  5. Help Larkin Street Youth provide holiday gifts to more than 450 San Francisco youth living in shelters and transitional housing. Click here for a list of gifts the organization is collecting between now and December 11.

  6. Bay-Area based Tax-Aid, which provides free income tax return preparation for low-income families, is raising funds to purchase new laptops for its volunteers to use during tax season this spring. You can make a donation here.

  7. Join the San Francisco Education Fund on December 10 at the Hi-Lo Club on Polk to celebrate for a good cause. Their Young Professionals Council will be collecting items from their classroom supplies wish list and accepting donations to support SFUSD students and teachers. RSVP here.

  8. Drive, bike, walk and deliver for Meals on Wheels SF! You can deliver groceries to homebound seniors every Wednesday as part of the organization's Home Delivered Groceries program OR you and a team can volunteer to deliver disaster survival kits as part of MOWSF's partnership with Gigwalk. To deliver groceries all January or to deliver disaster kits today, email dbelfield@mowsf.org. Those also interested in donating to MOWSF can go here.
