IUP Values Me
Bennett is completing his second year in the Student Affairs in Higher Education master’s program and will graduate in May. He is a graduate assistant in the Career and Professional Development Center, where he conducts career coaching and coordinates mock interviews and etiquette dinners. Bennett is a graduate intern with the Department for Disability Access and Advising (D2A2) and supports the advising of students with disabilities. He previously served as a graduate intern with the University College and helped with new-student orientation programs as well as the creation of interactive diversity, equity, and inclusion activities to train student success leaders. Bennett served as a facilitator for the Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement’s Self to Society Leadership Conference, is an active member of the Associates for Student Development, and is on the planning committee for SAHE’s 50th anniversary celebration. Next semester, he will assist with initiatives of the President’s Commission on Diversity and Inclusion. We thank you, Bennett!
Ali is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Disorders, Special Education, and Disability Services in the College of Education and Communications. Her teaching areas include collaboration between professionals and families, service delivery models, typical and atypical development, creativity, and technology. She is the faculty advisor to the Best Buddies and Special Olympics clubs at IUP. In her work with Best Buddies, Ali helps create opportunities for one-to-one friendships between members of the IUP community and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the greater community. The chapter holds monthly social events, including trips to a pumpkin patch, game nights, and an annual bingo fundraising event. The IUP Best Buddies chapter was named the 2020 Pennsylvania College Chapter of the Year (Follow @bestbuddiesiup). We thank you, Ali!
A note about IUP Values Me: Each week, we will highlight one student and one staff member to “shine a spotlight” on their leadership and involvement in campus programs and their great work assisting our campus community with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and/or civil rights awareness. If you have a suggestion for an IUP community member to feature in this section, please email social-equity@iup.edu.
