Exodus 19:3-6
3 Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: 4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6 you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”
New International Version (NIV)
How did we get here?  My first plane trip was across the Atlantic Ocean when I was seven years old.  I must have fallen asleep on the plane.  When I awakened, we loaded up in an old car and drove up a cobblestone street to our third-floor apartment. How did we get here?
In the wilderness, looking up at the mountain of God, the Israelites might have asked that question.  How did we get here?  God answered, "On eagle's wings."
Looking back at our own journeys in life, we may reflect on the events that brought us where we are.  We and others made decisions which led to moves and different destinations. But if we could see it all from God's view:  Eagle's wings brought us here.
After we adopted our daughter I asked her, "How did you get here?"  With fire in her eyes she said, "God brought me here."  Me, too.  So I am going to go with him!
Pray with me:
Father, thank you for carrying us safely to where we are.  We rest our whole lives on the arms of your unfailing glove.  Lift us higher today so that we may see where we were when you found us.  Take us safely home, we pray.  In Jesus' name we pray.   Amen.
Our 2023 Every Day with Jesus readings are taken from Robert Murray M'Cheyne's Bible Reading Calendar. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
Please join us in reading through the scriptures again this year.  We will read the New Testament twice and the Old Testament once this year. M'Cheyne once said, “A man is who he is on his knees, and nothing more.”  Would you pray with me that God will make his word live to us this year?  Let’s not just get through the Bible.  Let it get through to us!

Joyfully,
Duane
