When the Lord wanted to get his people to the promised land, he did not take them on the shortest path through the wilderness. The Lord knew when the going got tough, the people might give up. So he took them the long way by the Red Sea. There, between Pharaoh's army and an impassable body of water, they would have to decide once and for all whether they trusted God. No matter what they faced, God never left his people. He accompanied them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
There are no shortcuts to holiness! In my experience, God does not always take his people on the easiest path to his purpose. So often, in my life, God has put me in seemingly impossible situations so I was forced to depend completely on him. When we come to the end of our own resources, we discover that God is never in short supply. Never be afraid to follow the God of infinite possibilities into an "impossible situation." Trust the God who never leaves you. He can do anything but fail!
