From Ideas to Effective Action: A Message from Gil Preuss
Earlier this spring, I wrote to you about Federation’s first-ever Pitch Night. Nearly 50 organizations gathered to share 68 innovative ideas for engaging the next generation in Jewish life and expanding the reach of Jewish life in Northern Virginia. I am excited to share that last week, Federation’s Board of Directors approved more than $1 million in funding for 28 of the proposals we heard during Pitch Night. The newly-funded ideas will help to highlight the joys of Jewish life while also helping to tackle some of the challenges head on.

Thank You for Making Giving Week a Success!
Last week, during #ShalomdDCGivingWeek, 253 donors in our community gave $133,000, expressing their generosity and commitment to inspire, build and sustain a vibrant Jewish future -- locally, in Israel, and around the world.

Jewish Greater Washington: A Community Eager for Impact and Innovation
With the allocation of more than $1 million in funding for new ideas and expansion of high impact initiatives, Federation continues to invest in building a vibrant and connected Jewish Greater Washington. We are eager to see new initiatives take root and excited to cultivate new partnerships and increase collaboration between our communal organizations. The funded initiatives are set to infuse our local Jewish community with innovative and impactful programming, initiatives, and offerings across the DMV.

Federation Trains Our Community's First Youth Mental Health First Aid Responders
On May 21, The Jewish Federation convened 27 professionals and lay leaders from 18 different organizations including JCCs, synagogues, camps, youth groups, and day schools for a successful youth Mental Health First Aid workshop. The eight-hour training was infused with Jewish values, and designed for adults in our community who regularly interact with youth ages 12-18. Trainees learn to support adolescents who may be struggling with mental health issues or substance use problems, and connect them to appropriate care. As we continue to work towards building a more caring community, Federation is exploring the possibility of making this workshop available again in the fall.
