Maintaining Udder Cleanliness Without Adding Stress

Clean udders are easier to prepare for milking and are important in maintaining milk quality and udder health. One method to improve udder hygiene is removing udder hair, which can trap manure and debris and harbor bacteria that increase the risk of infection and elevated somatic cell counts.

Talking with Kids about Tough Stuff

National 4-H Week is the first full week in October, during which millions of youth, parents, volunteers, and alumni across the country celebrate everything 4-H. Area 4-H clubs observed National 4-H Week this year by showcasing the incredible experiences that 4-H offers young people and highlighting the remarkable 4-H youth in our community who work each day to make a positive impact on those around them.

Building Knowledge About Wisconsin’s Cover Crops: A farmer research project

We’re kicking off the sixth year of the Wisconsin Cover Crop Citizen Science project! If you use cover crops, we need your assistance. We welcome all levels of cover crop experience and types of operations actively using cover crops.

Is Your Child Ready to Stay at Home Alone?

When can I start to let my child stay home alone? How old should my child be? How long can I leave my child home alone? If you’ve been thinking about these questions since the new school year started, you are not alone. Many parents ask these questions when their child seems too old for childcare and yet not old enough to be on their own for long periods of time.

While child experts typically agree that 11 or 12 years old is an appropriate age to stay home alone for a few hours, there are a number of factors to consider and it varies for each family. Take into account the maturity of your child, where you live, your support network and how far away you as a parent will be.

UW–Madison Extension Fond du Lac County is Moving!

Beginning December 1, 2025, the UW–Madison Division of Extension Fond du Lac County office will relocate from the Fond du Lac County Campus at 400 University Drive to the Fond du Lac County Government Center, 160 S. Macy Street, second floor.

While our office location is changing, our commitment to serving the community remains the same. Extension staff will continue to be accessible and provide the educational resources, programs, and support you rely on.
