Dear Traveler:

There’s a chilly wind coming in over the mountains, a little frost on the leaves in the morning, a sense of anticipation building and, if you’re inclined to notice, maybe a whiff of peppermint and gingerbread alongside the pine. It’s holiday time in Transylvania County and everybody’s trying to get in the spirit of things. The toy shop is swinging. Main street is ringing. And the white squirrels are dreaming of a white Christmas . . .just like the one they used to know.

It feels like the right time to have a cup of hot chocolate and then maybe settle in for a long winter’s nap. But before you set out the reindeer snacks and give yourself over to visions of sugar plums, consider spending some time giving your holiday spirit a lift in Brevard. See the sights. Pick up the last few treats to go under the tree. Experience the magic of the season in a truly magical place.

 Ho Ho Ho!

Happy New Beer!

5th Annual Oskar Blues New Years Hootenanny
Oskar Blues Brewery

342 Mountain Industrial Drive, Brevard
Saturday, December 31

7pm-2am

When it comes to a new standard in New Year’s Eve parties, the folks at Oskar Blues are really raising the bar, or more precisely sidling up to it. Their famed combination of live music, food and local craft brews promises to unite both pro-hops and no-hops camps (and everyone in between) in congenial beer-y cheer faster than you can play “Auld Lang Syne” with an electric guitar and a kicking backbeat. This year’s performers include Chapel Hill’s lovably raucous Southern Culture on the Skids, Los Angeles’ own “Americana weirdo” Johnny Fritz and local bluegrass gang, Pretty Little Goat.  Tickets to this throwdown go quick, so don’t delay, less you spend your NYE in a much less legendary way.

Collect your noisemaker, and get ready for the countdown here.
