On Wednesday, September 2nd, The Calumet Girl’s Golf team had an
exciting road trip to J & M Golf, in St. John, to celebrate the VIP
unveiling of their five matching Clicgear 4.0 push carts. The event was possible because of three major contributors.

Through the generous benefactors of the Indiana Golf Foundation Board Members, Lake Ridge School Corporation Board President, Mr.  Glenn Johnson, and Tony Lane of J & M Golf, the Calumet Girl’s Golf Team received funds to assist them in acquiring push carts for the only high school golf program in Gary, Indiana.

Second year girl’s golf coach Samantha Miestowski worked in conjunction with
Assistant Executive Director, Autumn Strong, to initiate the process. By working with
Indiana Golf, J & M Golf, and Board President, Glenn Johnson of Lake Ridge School Corporation,  Tony Lane secured the right price, and all of the  donors helped facilitate the young players with the best equipment possible.  The Clicgear 4.0 carts have a $2,500 retail value.  This acquisition is a major game changer for not only the girl’s golf team, but all for the boy’s golf team as both teams share all their equipment.

None of this would be possible without five hardworking freshmen, including:  Neveah and Nivea Anderson, Kayla Congress, Elizabeth Schouten, Lillian Tortolano, Principal, Mr. Bajmakovich, Athletic Director, Kuntarich, and Assistant Coach, Racyne Johnson.  These five push carts will certainly attract and grow the golf program in this region.

In his 25 years of being in the golf business, retailer Tony Lane stated, “You were the only school to my knowledge that has ever done any fundraising like this for a high school golf program.”  On behalf of the Calumet Girl’s Golf Team, we sincerely, appreciate the support for the continued growth of the game of golf at our school.

Under Site Director, Jenny Zimmerman and their local First Tee Board, our First Tee-Indiana in Michiana program location has taken growth and programming to another level up north. They have recently broke ground on the John & Kathy Postle Golf Learning Center at Studebaker Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana. October 9, 2020 was a huge day of celebration for local stakeholders, John & Kathy Postle, First Tee participants and their families, the local government and for those that have grown up calling Studebaker Golf Course their home. The building is set to be complete in the Spring of 2021 and a short game facility to be added later in the year. The John & Kathy Postle Learning Center will be a homesite for First Tee-Indiana in Michiana for years to come and will give participants a place to call their own.
