Office Update

Tracy will be out on family leave until March 13. If you need anything while she is out, please contact Tina at the office via phone (920) 929-3171 or via email at tina.engelhardt@wisc.edu. During Tracy's absence, the 4-H Friday will be sent out twice a month. This will help provide updates in a timely manner. If you have items that need to be sent out in the newsletters, please continue to submit them via the Google form or email Tina.

Taft 23

Taft 23 4-H Club's February Community Service project was making Valentine's cards and sweet treats for shut-ins and special friends. They made 50 bags to hand out. Many were handed out at area nursing homes.

Busy Bees 4-H members made Valentine cards for Tower View Nursing Home at our February meeting. We also started planning our pizza fundraiser, and will be having a pizza and bowling party in March. - Submitted by Reporter, Leah M.
Green Valley
Green Valley held its monthly meeting on February 13, 2023 at Rolling Meadows Dairy Barn at 6:30pm. 
We had a short meeting, with introductions of several new members.  After the meeting adjournment, we had a guest speaker that spoke about 3D Laser Printing and he showed us several things that he created including the Dragon in the photo. He also created several toys for the Toys for Tots drive.
Next meeting will be held on March 13, 2023, at Rolling Meadows Dairy Barn at 6:30pm. We will have a short meeting followed by a guest speaker. - Submitted by Reporter Owen B.

Teen Leader Association (TLA)

TLA has its next meeting February 27, 7:00 pm at Rolling Meadows Meeting Room and via zoom. Animal Science Virtual Educational Series-Date Changes
  • March 6th has been changed to April 3rd: Reproduction Technologies in Animal Sciences

Orientation Meeting March 20th: Save the date for the Fond du Lac County Market Livestock Project Orientation Meeting, set for Monday, March 20th, 7 pm, at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Recreational Building. This meeting is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED, and ear tags will be distributed at this time. Swine Project Meeting March 21st: Save the date for a Pig Clinic on what to look for when buying, what feed is the best, and housing your hogs.  The meeting will be at 7 pm, the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Recreation Building. This meeting is worth 2 points toward the minimum 8 points need to qualify for the Fond du Lac Coutny Fair Market Livestock Sale. 
YQCA Certification: To qualify for the Fond du Lac County Market Livestock Sale, youth must be YQCA certified each year.  This training is provided online at http://yqcaprogram.org.  Please complete the online training at your convenience, and once completed please email a copy of your certificate to Tina Kohlman at tina.kohlman@wisc.eduYQCA Certification will count 2 points towards the minimum 8 points needed to qualify for the Fond du Lac County Market Livestock Sale.

2023 Family Learning Day

If you have signed up for Family Learning Day sessions, please come to the registration table in the University Center (UC) at UWO Fond du Lac Campus on February 25 when you arrive to check in. This includes the presenters and volunteers.

Global Exploration Series



Join Wisconsin 4-H and UW-Madison International Reach for a free virtual trip around the world! Throughout this spring, joininternational students who will share about their home country and culture. Open to youth and adult volunteers of all ages!

Registration is now open in 4HOnline under the “events” tab.  After completing the brief registration, a Zoom link to join each session will be sent. Participants not enrolled in 4-H will need to create an account (you do not have to enroll in 4-H). Register for the event from your profile under the events tab on the left hand side. You can find information on registering for an event in 4HOnline here.

2023 Stephenson Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted

The purpose of The Stephenson Scholarship Fund of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin is to assist students of Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, in attaining or completing an education at any one of the University of Wisconsin campuses. All residents of Fond du Lac County are eligible to apply.
Scholarships will be awarded to students who have shown ambition to obtain further education. Those selected will not necessarily be to the most needy students financially nor the most brilliant. Scholarships will be awarded only to full-time, undergraduate college students (incoming freshmen through seniors in college). The total amount of the scholarships will be dependent upon monies available for distribution from the Stephenson Fund. Any questions regarding the application process through award presentation, please contact   stephensonscholarship@gmail.com.
Complete the application form as a PDF document using the provided text boxes. A filled four page PDF, matching the posted application must be printed and two copies should be submitted. Applications must be mailed and postmarked by March 20, 2023.

Shooting Sports

This year there will be archery and air gun offered in the spring. Youth participating in spring archery and air gun must be in 3rd grade or older and be a registered 4-H member. Parents are invited to stay for classes to assist the certified shooting sports leaders.  Parents are expected to stay for the first class as instructions and background information will be provided. The spring archery and air gun classes will be from 5:30-7:30 pm on the following Tuesdays and Thursdays in May ( Tentatively May 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30) at Izaak Walton League, N6491 County Trunk K, on the east edge of FdL. Archery will be $2.00 per night and air gun will also be $2.00 per night. If you have any questions about shooting sports, please call Dwight Paulin at 920-922-9805.

Sign up to spend time at Upham Woods canoeing, exploring Blackhawk Island, and making new friends.
Youth Camp
Who: Any youth entering 4th-8th grade. Scholarships will be available.
When: July 5-8 or July 19-22
Cost: $295
 
Family Camp
Who: Families that want to spend time together enjoy classic camp activities. Families can include parents, grandparents, aunts, close friends etc. Anyone that you consider family is welcome to attend this exciting weekend.

Youth Counselors
:

 Adult Chaperones:
  • Who: Anyone over the age of 18 who wants to facilitate a safe, inclusive camp experience.
  • Must be able to: Pass a background check, agree to camp policies, complete required UW-Madison trainings and attend a virtual training session in April.
  • There is a need for specialized chaperones such as first aid coordinator (requires certifications), dining hall coordinator etc.

4-H ArtBeat Registration Open

4-H ArtBEAT! is for 4-H members in grades 3-5 and their parents and leaders. It is an introductory program for Wisconsin 4-H Arts and Communication where 4-H members will have the opportunity to explore their own creativity while discovering a variety of 4-H Arts & Communication experiences available to them now and in the near future. 
The 2023 WI 4-H ArtBEAT! will be held March 17-19 at Upham Woods in Wisconsin Dells. The weekend will feature a variety of arts projects including music, drama, visual arts, and more!  Camp check-in begins Friday at 6:30 pm and runs through Sunday at 11:00 am.
Parents are not required to attend but are invited. All adults attending the camp must be enrolled volunteers who have completed all volunteer and Adult Advisor/Chaperone Training (including Supporting Youth Mental Health, required for overnight chaperones). Adult Advisors are responsible for providing leadership and support for ALL campers. As such, all adults who want to attend ArtBEAT! must complete the requirements to become a 4-H Leader before ArtBEAT! and participate in an Adult Advisor/Chaperone Orientation Zoon on Thursday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m.  Interested adults who are not already active 4-H Leaders should contact their county UW-Extension 4-H Office as soon as possible for assistance in completing the process to become a volunteer. The process involves Volunteer in Preparation (VIP), Title IX, Mandated Reporter, and Building Safe Spaces (BSS) Trainings and a Background Check. 
The $125.00 per person fee for youth and $75.00 per person fee for adults will include all materials and supplies (including a very cool ArtBEAT! backpack), overnight lodging, and meals.  Register in 4HOnline by February 20, 2023.
