No one wants to be sick for finals week.
Otsego County and the state are seeing an increase in COVID cases, and flu is also prevalent in our community. Even though our commitment to vaccination and testing has protected our campus community, concerns over a new COVID variant and the shift to more indoor activities because of cold weather means we must be extra cautious.
The end of the semester brings many off-campus celebrations that may tempt us to let our guard down. However, gathering indoors where people are unmasked or the vaccination or testing status of others is unknown increases your risk of being exposed to, transmitting or contracting COVID or the flu, even if you're vaccinated. While we are all growing weary of dealing with the pandemic, taking action to prevent the spread of COVID is still critically important.
Remember that finals begin in just a few short days, and soon after that you may be traveling home or to see family and friends. Don't jeopardize your health, or the health of others, by making risky decisions now.
Our usual reminder remains in place - if you plan to gather with others, please keep the group small and remember that Otsego County is still a high-transmission community according to the CDC. Masks are required for everyone indoors on campus and highly recommended in all indoor settings off campus. If you come into contact with someone who has symptoms or later tests positive, monitor yourself for symptoms and seek a test within five days.
There are many exciting or relaxing activities to participate in on campus all weekend. Check Campus Connection for a full list of events. With finals ending on Dec. 14, remaining diligent and following the safety guidelines will help keep you, our college, and those you care about healthy. We know the Red Dragon family can finish the semester strong, and we thank you for continuing to do all you can to prevent new cases of COVID in our community.
