Parent Education Resources: Student Involvement
Get involved! Be more active! As parents we are constantly encouraging our kids to put down their phones and do something, and this is more important now than ever before. Inglemoor offers a wide variety of clubs and activities for our student body that are inclusive, challenging, rewarding, and most of all just plain fun. I think students can often feel like maybe "it's too late to join", or "I don't know anyone", but now is the time! Even if you just join a club to check it out, and you don't end up liking it there is no reason to not give it a try.
This is how you discover new interests, meet new people and get more out of this high school experience. We are all "New" to the group at one point or another. So "JOIN THE CLUB!" Our ASB is excited to share this slideshow with information on many of the clubs and experiences that IHS has to offer. Share this slideshow with your students! Share with them stories of things you were involved in when you were in high school. Tell them about the fun friend you met by trying something new. It might be just the encouragement that is needed to unlock the door to a fantastic experience.
Also check out our ASB Activities link on the website for more information on clubs and activities at IHS!
"When I started my freshman year I was curious about what clubs to join and how I would balance them with my soccer team and classes. However, with Inglemoor's Honor Society it was easy to balance its requirements among my other activities. As I volunteered in Inglemoor-endorsed activities I always ran into fellow Vikings outside of school and enjoyed working to better our community as volunteers. "- Alicia Jurado
"I joined TSA because I've always been passionate about technology and learning about the different avenues of technology, whether this be CAD Architecture, Programming, or Debating about Technology. TSA provided me a great learning environment where I could develop these skills through competitive events that made the learning process enjoyable. I also gained a multitude of skills and opportunities such as leadership and networking that have enhanced my academic and pre-professional experiences." - Aditi Saraf
"I joined Euro-Challenge because I wanted to learn more about European countries with a small group of other students. I didn't know anything about economics when I first joined, but we all found ways to learn together quickly! It ended up being a great experience and I am glad I joined!"- Sofia Leotta
"I joined to further my interests in the subject at hand (math and German), and kept at it since the advisors and other club members helped me achieve the goal of developing greater skill in those subjects."- Alec Hurchalla

Hello IHS Families and Students,
Registration is upon us! The Counseling team is excited to be registering students for the upcoming 2021-22 school year. We realize there will be so many questions this time around, and we are doing our best to put out as much information as possible in the coming weeks!
Although we do not know the status of in-person/hybrid schooling for the fall, we will still be registering students for the standard 7 period day.
Here is a PDF of upcoming key dates and guidance related to your student’s registration.
IHS Students:
We want you to be proactive in the registration process! You began by watching a registration video on our return from mid-winter break, Monday (2/22) during your morning classes. If you do not attend morning classes at Inglemoor, don’t worry, we will have you covered! All of this information will be recorded for viewing on our website under the Course Registration tab. You will receive a detailed explanation about our course options so you are able to make good and accurate decisions on your course selection.
To find more information:
· Please visit the counseling website regularly! We will be posting updates often, including any recorded sessions.
· All Webinars and FAQ Friday sessions will be recorded and posted to the counseling website, as well as Schoology.
· Consult the Course Description Catalog found on our Counseling Website
· Attend an information session:
*IB Information will be prerecorded and posted online. It will be available to access throughout the registration period.
* WANiC Information Session - Wednesday, March 17th online from 10:00-11:00 am
* Running Start Information Session - Wednesday, March 17th online from 1:00-2:00 pm
*IHS Electives- Please take a look at our thorough presentation on the various options.
* Ask your teachers for recommendations- they can point you in the right direction!
Please be sure to go through all of the many resources we have online and attend any relevant information before contacting your counselor with questions. To make sure that everyone receives this important information, we are dedicating the majority of our 1:1 time to our students in specialized programs.
We respectfully request that any necessary individual student meetings with counselors wait until the end of March when our class registration visits have concluded.

Anchored Families
FREE Parent Education Series for all Inglemoor Parents & Caregivers · 5 online video modules (watch at your convenience) · Twice monthly live coaching zoom calls (optional) Parent Review— “As a parent of multiple teens, I thought that I knew most parenting tricks and tips. However, after learning and practicing “The 5 Must Have Parenting Tools”, our family is much more capable of managing during this stressful and unpredictable time. I have the skills to support my children, and they have learned skills to help themselves. I am so thankful for this parenting series.”
Program for Parents/Caregivers. Anchored Families is founded upon the principles of joy, connection and trauma informed practices. How we show up for ourselves and our kids impacts our ability to experience joy and true connection. Now, more than ever, is the time to deepen adult well-being and confidence by focusing on creating trauma-informed environments for families through a holistic approach that includes considerable and sustainable care for the adults. To support parents in doing just that, Cher Anderton, MSW, LSWAIC has created an innovative online course composed of five asynchronous modules accessible any time throughout the subscription year, a workbook and twice monthly live online coaching where parents can dive deeper into implementation and practice of the 5 Must Have Tools In Your Parenting Toolbox. By intentionally practicing these tools, we can learn to model the very skills we want our kids to emulate. The course was created using concepts from evidence-based practices such as Positive Discipline (a parenting approach that is culturally responsive and mutually respectful of kids and adults) and social and emotional learning competencies from The Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL). Please see this flyer for more detailed information. We are bringing this program to our parent/caregiver community because of expressed need for Parent Education during remote learning. This program was created because many of you expressed that you want to connect with other parents and they are open to trying new programs. We realize parents and caregivers are now taking on more roles in the household, and we want to help you develop some new ways to structure your home environment so that everyone in the household feels as fulfilled and successful as possible. This course will give everyone an opportunity to learn new tools that can be introduced into the home that create a better home and remote learning environment for your teen. Participation in this program is free of cost, and all parents/caregivers can join by clicking the link and coupon code on the flyer. You can complete the course at your own pace now through the end of the current school year. It is just for Inglemoor families. Thank you!

Attendance Updates:
Because of the importance of student attendance, Inglemoor will now be notifying parents/guardians of daily absences using our Robo Call system. If your child is going to be absent, please email the attendance office prior to the absence or no later than 48 hours after the absence.
If your child engages asynchronously, the Robo Call will be a reminder that your student has work to complete and after completing the work, they should email the teacher confirming that the assignment was completed asynchronously.
Wednesdays are still school days. Even though there are no live sessions for students, they are expected to work asynchronously on homework or other assignments. Teachers still take attendance on Wednesdays, and the only way a student can be marked absent is if they miss their scheduled office hours meeting with a teacher. If you receive a robo call about your student on Wednesday evening, it is due to them missing this scheduled office hour meeting.
Just a friendly reminder that Parents/Guardians need to excuse their student's absences within 72 hours (this has just been changed from 48 hours) of the absence occurring. To excuse, please call 425-408-7210 or email ihsattendance@nsd.org or pkartchner@nsd.org with your students first and last name, ID # and what periods/days they will be missing so our attendance secretary can correctly code it. Thank you!
Also, Teachers can mark students absent if they are not participating and there is a blank screen. Please email if you have any questions regarding this process. Thank you for your continued support through these unprecedented times.

Parents of Seniors:
The High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) graduation requirement was officially due on Jan. 24th. With all the difficulties that COVID has brought on there are still several students who have not completed this requirement. The senior "not on track for graduation" letters will be coming out soon and we don't want you to be surprised if you receive a letter for the HSBP. Here's what you need to know:
Don't panic! There is plenty of time to get this done and we have never had a senior not graduate due to not completing the HSBP.
One reason for this is that we can call them in to the College and Career Center and have them complete it when we are at school. Since we cannot count on that happening, we would love your support in assuring they get it completed ASAP so we can get it marked off on their transcript.
For most students, completing the HSBP should only take about 15-30 minutes. If a student hasn't completed any of the tasks it will take more time to complete.
I have sent an email to all seniors letting them know they can drop in on my Zoom room any Wednesday between 10-11:30 if they need support. And they can always reach out by email to set something up.
Thank you so much for you support!
Sincerely, Jim Allen

News From the School Nurse:
New Immunization Laws:
Revised immunization laws went into effect August 1, 2020 for childcare, preschools, and K-12 campuses. New students must have medically verified documentation of required immunizations on file the first day of in-person instruction. (Parent reported vaccination dates and the 30-day grace period to report vaccination dates are no longer accepted).
Medically verified includes one of the following:
A Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) printed from the Immunization Information System (available on MyIR or through your health care provider) · A hardcopy of a CIS form with handwritten vaccination dates AND healthcare provider signature · A hardcopy of a CIS form AND immunization records from a healthcare provider attached
Families can check immunization status, identify missing vaccines, and print the Certificate of Immunization Status using MyIR, a portal of the Washington State Immunization Information System (WAIIS).
Please know that students whose vaccination status is “Out of Compliance” will be unable to receive in-person instruction or participate in activities on campus (including athletics) until required immunizations are complete and medically verified documentation is on file with the school nurse.
Please help ensure that your school community is protected from vaccine preventable diseases during the pandemic. If you have further questions or concerns, please contact the school nurse or your health care provider.

Jessica Parrott (Works with students with the last name starting with Sc-Z)
From Our Mental Health Counselor Caleb Visser:
I am expecting March to be a difficult month for students and for parents. One of my main concerns as a clinician who cares for teens is to open compassionate spaces. Internally in the form of more generous and caring self-talk, also externally, in relationships between friends and family members.
Nearly all of us are more agitated and anxious at baseline than we've been previously (I include myself here), and that can hurt our capacity for empathy and understanding. I made some videos over break, and my aim is to help teenagers and parents understand more about why this year is so hard on students. I use knowledge mostly compiled from Daniel Siegel's wonderful book "Brainstorm", which is helpful both for its scientific rigor and its accessibility.
Here's a link to the first of a series of four videos on the ESSENCE of adolescence, from this link, you should be able to find the other three I published at the beginning of January. I hope this helps a little, and I hope we all find extra compassion for our teenagers and ourselves. I care about you all! We'll make it through this together.
I've recently been reading Dr. Lisa Damour, a psychologist who has authored two brilliant books about the stressed facing teenage girls. Under Pressure and Untangled are both highly recommended and very affordable. I recently stumbled on her podcast for parents, and an extraordinarily helpful episode released last week, where she chats about navigating the challenges of online education with teenagers. If you've not heard of Damour, I think you will find her very practical and helpful. You can check out the episode here: and subscribe to her podcast "Ask Lisa: The Psychology and Parenting".
InvestEd Fund:
If you or anyone you know would like to consider donating to our InvestEd Fund, we can assure you that all money goes directly into the school's account, which is managed by the counseling department. InvestEd has very defined standards for how they allow us to use the money, but it always goes to individual students to support their basic needs or engagement with school. The best part about this fund is that it does not require any student to jump through hoops or fill out paperwork, it is simply a request that goes through the counseling department and we take care of it from there.
So far this year, we have used the money to support families with utility bills, warm winter clothing, groceries, and most recently, tutoring supports for our most at-risk students. If you would like to know more, you can read information about the program on their website. Families that are interested in having their money go to Inglemoor students directly can currently send a check to our bookkeeper, with a note that they would like the funds to be distributed in our InvestEd account. There are no fees associated with the account and our bookkeeper, Lesley Clawson is always sure to get the funding to us ASAP. Feel free to connect with her directly.

Fees
Did your student have a class fee or an ASB club fee during first Semester? To see if your student has an outstanding fee, please take a moment to log into your family's TouchBase account. To access your account online, you need an official parent TouchBase login (this is different from ParentVue). Email Mrs. Clawson to obtain your family's username and password.
A fee that has not been paid or cleared does become a fine--there is no late fee added, but any fines that are still unpaid at the end of the school year will limit your student's ability to receive a yearbook or transcript copies for colleges. Financial assistance is available. Please contact your guidance counselor if you need help covering the cost of your fees. If you have any questions about your account, please contact Mrs. Clawson or your counselor who are happy to help.
Seniors
Seniors, are you interested in joining a IHS seniors only Minecraft world? Check your student email for information on how you can join the IHS seniors Minecraft server. If you have any questions please reach out to Mrs. Kowalski (ekowalski@nsd.org)
ASB Cards Many students and families have reached out to us about purchasing ASB cards. Currently, ASB cards can only be purchased for students who are involved in a club that is attending conferences or competing. ASB card fees will be assessed to individual student accounts as the club member names are provided to us from the advisors. This year, cards will be broken up into semester 1 and semester 2. Each semester will have a $30 ASB card. This means that if a club or activity only competes during one semester the student will only be charged $30 for the semester that their club or activity is competing in. This formula will also be applied to sports when they begin as well.
As we enter different stages in the Northshore Learning Model Status, ASB cards may be available for purchase by all students. We will continue to update you as we enter new stages.
From Design for Change Club:
Hello IHS Vikings! We are Design for Change, a new club at Inglemoor this year! Our club is currently holding a project that involves collecting short videos or audio files of a wide array of people answering the question, "What are you most hopeful for in your future?" The goal we have in mind is to help students connect with family and friends to learn about their stories, or learn more about themselves. If you are interested in helping us with our project, here are the requirements of the video!
1. Must be a video file. If you are not comfortable with showing your face, a high-quality audio file is acceptable as well. The video is preferred to be under five minutes long, although we would be happy to accept any longer videos you may have! 2. Some of the suggested prompts you may answer in your video include the following... a. What are you most hopeful for in your future? This can be in the near future, or much later, such as hopes for future careers and jobs. b. What is something that motivates or drives you? c. What is something you would like to achieve? d. What advice would you have for the younger generation? e. What is something you have learned about yourself during quarantine? f. What was the first thing you wanted to be in your future? How is this different from what you want to be now? What inspired you to change your mind or stick to that goal? g. What is something you are proud of yourself for? h. What has made you laugh recently? i. What is one goal you have right now? j. Who is someone you look up to? k. What is something you have learned about yourself?
If you have any other prompts you would like to answer, please include them in your video, we would love to hear it! 3. The video can be your own responses to prompts, or you may interview family members or friends. People of all ages are welcome, so please feel free to interview your grandparents, parents, or siblings! 4. Please keep the video school-appropriate. 5. The video must be a high-quality video with a clear view of your face and no distracting background noises or scenes. Responses must be clear and audible. We may contact you if the responses are not clear. 6. Please submit your video to this Google Form. You will need to sign a video and photo consent form to acknowledge your participation in our project.
Thank you so much for your participation!
