Tuition for the 2022-23 School Year

January 24, 2022

Dear St. Michael’s Families,

It’s an exciting time to be at St. Michael’s!  Now, well into the second half of the school year, students are fully engaged with a dedicated and highly skilled faculty and staff who support rigorous and comprehensive programs.  The children and faculty are serving our mission, the Assembly Hall construction is proceeding as scheduled, and we are now actively planning year-end events. Thank you for entrusting St. Michael’s with your child(ren)’s education.

While enjoying every day on campus, we are also simultaneously planning thoughtfully and deliberately for next year and beyond.  To that end, the St M Board of Directors has 1) approved the School’s preliminary budget for the 2022/23 school year, 2) approved the issuance of enrollment contracts, and 3) launched our 18-month long strategic planning process, for which the end result will be a “road map” of objectives to achieve in the years to come.

BUDGET

Throughout the 2022/23 budgeting process, the Board and Admin groups engaged in considerable discussion and analysis on how to most prudently balance financial requirements with our commitment to nurture each student’s intellectual curiosity through our extensive and rich program.  Our foremost objectives are to maintain competitive compensation levels to attract and retain outstanding educators, to provide your children with the comprehensive education you have come to expect of St. Michael’s, and to deliver upon our mission.

As part of its budgeting process, the St. Michael’s Board of Directors has set tuition for the 2022-2023 school year, as follows. With the entire student body now benefiting from our 1:1 computer device program, a Tech Fee for Lower School students has been newly incorporated.

ENROLLMENT CONTRACTS

Re-enrollment contracts for the 2022-2023 school year will be issued electronically on Monday, January 31.  Contracts are due back, along with the $500 enrollment deposit, by NOON on Thursday, FEBRUARY 10, 2022.  Thereafter, enrollment offers will be made to new students.  Enrollment deposits may be submitted via credit card through PowerSchool (credit card fees apply) or check payable to St. Michael’s Episcopal School. Thank you for your prompt return of your child’s re-enrollment contract and deposit.

STRATEGIC PLANNING
The strength of our vibrant learning community has positioned St. Michael's as the premier independent school for kindergarten through eighth grades in Richmond. We have achieved this distinction through thoughtful planning and execution of our mission throughout the School's 65-year history. Now on the cusp of fully realizing our current Strategic Plan, and with the culmination of our ONE.TOGETHER Capital Campaign, St. Michael’s is again poised and excited to launch a new strategic planning process to guide the work of our School’s leadership in the years to come.

To lead us in the development of our next Strategic Plan, St. Michael’s has engaged the services of Warren Whitney, a results-oriented management consulting firm based in Richmond.  Specifically, Warren Whitney’s co-founder and director, Katherine Whitney, will partner with our Board’s Strategic Planning Committee led by Committee Chair Beth Murphy Rollins.  Throughout the remainder of this year and next, and through listening sessions, surveys, and data synthesis, Katherine and Beth will lead our efforts to launch a new Plan in the Spring of 2023. We simultaneously enjoy our work on behalf of the School today and for its future.  In the months to come, all of our families will be asked to engage in our planning process.

We serve your children with great enthusiasm and look forward to doing so again in the coming year.  Thank you for your continued commitment and support of St. Michael’s Episcopal School.
