Northeast
Adams Radio Group's Rhythmic CHR/WJFX (107.9fm, New Haven) promotes late night and weekend host Taylor Morgan ("Taylor") to middays, under GM Kevin Musselman and PD Robbie Mack.
Northeast Indiana Public Radio's WBOI (89.1fm, Fort Wayne) welcomes a new reporter: Barbara Anguiano. Ms. Anguiano last served as Senior Reporter for another Indiana-based NPR affiliate Elkhart Community Schools' WVPE (88.1fm, Elkhart). Ms. Anguiano also has a background in newspapers, having worked for Lee Enterprises.
Northcentral
Larry Langford's Oldies/WGTO (910am, Cassopolis, Michigan) moves his FM translator from 96.7fm to 97.1fm. It's a 250 watt translator, and the translator antenna is now on one of Federated Media's towers: The N/T WTRC-FM (95.3fm, Niles, Michigan) tower that's on IN-933, north of the Indiana Toll Road.
This Week in Indiana Radio History
Sign-on dates seem to be a prickly matter, subject to great debate, and mostly impossible to confirm. If there's something we need to add to the "calendar," please let us know. Please e-mail us if you have updated information.
October 14: In 2010, at Noon, what was then WJOE (106.3fm, Columbia City) flipped formats from adult hits ("106.3 Joe FM") to Talk ("106.3 The Truth").
October 15: In 1942, WOWO-FM signs on at 44.9 megacycles with 1000 watts. WOWO-FM wasn't on the air all the time; it had a limited schedule. In 1960, both 89.5fm in Franklin (WFCI) and 96.1fm in Richmond sign on (WGLM). WFCI remains so today, while 96.1fm in Richmond is now WQLK. In 1962, 106.1fm in North Vernon signed on as WOCH-FM (for owner Dorrell Ochs). Today, it's WWWY. In 1968, 102.3fm in Martinsville signs on as WCBK-FM, and remains so today. In 1983, both 98.3fm in Earl Park (WIBN) and Channel 19 in Madisonville, Kentucky sign on (WLCN). WIBN later moved to 98.1fm, and remains WIBN, while Channel 19 went off the air in 2011. In 1984, both 102.3fm in New Carlisle (WLPZ) and 107.9fm in Indianapolis sign on (WTPI). 102.3fm, New Carlisle is now WYET, while 107.9fm, Indianapolis is now WNTR.
October 16: In 1989, 103.7fm in Royal Center signs on as WHZR, and remains so today. In 2000, WRSW(AM) (1480am, Warsaw) flips format from Rock to ESPN Sports.
October 17: In 2016, WSMM (102.3fm, New Carlisle) flipped formats from Classic Hits to all 1980s music (as WYET) at Noon.
October 19: In 2011, former then-WIAN(FM) (90.1fm, Indianapolis) GM Art Van Allen dies. Age 81. Mr. Van Allen was WIAN GM from 1958 until 1986.
October 20: In 2014, WKUZ (95.9fm, Wabash) dropped its AC format and flipped to a country music format.
