Phishing Campaigns Targeting Higher Ed |
Mandiant, a cybersecurity firm specializing in threat intelligence and incident response has detected a rise in phishing attacks on U.S. universities, exploiting academic deadlines to steal credentials and financial data. Attackers use tactics like fake Google Forms, cloned login pages, and payment scams. Schools can reduce risks with MFA, phishing awareness, strict payment verification, and advanced email security.

Surge Of Unpaid Parking Phishing Texts |
There is a new emerging phishing scam that uses fake parking violation texts, claiming unpaid fines with a $35 daily penalty. Scammers use Google redirects to bypass security and steal personal and financial data through fraudulent payment sites.

Secure UCSB is a campuswide initiative aimed at strengthening cybersecurity protections in response to evolving digital threats. As part of a UC systemwide mandate, the program will focus on upgrading technology to safeguard sensitive personal, financial, academic, and research data. This effort also provides an opportunity to enhance UCSB’s overall cybersecurity infrastructure and ensure a safer digital environment for the campus community.

| Our currently decentralized campus network is moving to a unified, centrally-managed network service model. Buildings throughout campus will experience network outages on limited notice.

To ensure device security, all UCSB owned devices will deploy an MDM platform. Through this platform, security tools can be installed to ensure the detection of cyber threats, malware, and identifying and fixing vulnerabilities.

On April 30th, UCSB will begin enforcing Cybersecurity Awareness training in order to meet the UCOP mandate of 100% compliance. All employees must complete training through the UC Learning Center, or risk losing access to important systems like Canvas, Google Suite and Zoom.

Duo Security Enhancements |
On May 7th, UCSB will be implementing required changes to Duo MFA in order to enhance security.

SMS/"Text Me" codes and phone callback will be disabled

Duo Verified Push will be deployed
- If you already use Duo Mobile, your login experience will look different. Duo Verified Push displays a unique 4-digit verification code in the login window of the protected application. The user enters this 4-digit code into their Duo Mobile app to complete the authentication process.

Digital Spring Cleaning Tips |
Spring is the perfect time to clean up your digital presence by decluttering accounts, updating devices, and securing your online and personal information. A great way to start is by deleting unused accounts, unsubscribing from unnecessary email lists, and clearing out old files while keeping security policies in mind.
