Nobel laureate Maria Ressa to speak at Forum event

Maria Ressa, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, acclaimed journalist and renowned defender of democracy, will be the featured speaker at the 2023-24 Notre Dame Forum event “Safeguarding Democracy in an Era of AI and Digital Disinformation” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, in the Smith Ballroom at the Morris Inn. Ressa will explore key challenges facing international information ecosystems and global democracy.

Notre Dame staff fill out cast, crew of ‘magical’ South Bend Civic Theatre performance

August Wilsons The Piano Lesson, currently on stage at the South Bend Civic Theatre, tells the story of a family heirloom — an intricately carved piano bearing a painful history of the Charles family’s legacy of slavery, struggle and sacrifice. Natalie Davis Miller, managing editor in internal communications, is the director. She is supported by several other Notre Dame employees on the cast and crew.

Campus 

University chaplains support staff, faculty in multiple ways

Four University chaplains work to support all Notre Dame employees through any life journey or experience during which they can be helpful. Rev. Frank Murphy, C.S.C., serves as faculty chaplain, while Sister Andrea Lee, IHM, serves as staff chaplain along with assistant staff chaplains Rev. Michael Mathews, C.S.C., and Rev. Tim O’Connor, C.S.C. Rev. Jim Bracke, C.S.C., who served as staff chaplain for 11 years, retired earlier this year.

Sustainability 

Electric vehicles take charge in campus motor pool

At Notre Dame, Sustainability and Transportation Services have collaborated for the last year and a half to bring EVs to the University’s operational fleet. Through this collaboration, four new EVs have been added to the motor pool.

Notre Dame Stadium to host Chelsea FC and Celtic FC international friendly this summer

Notre Dame will welcome elite international club soccer competition when England’s Chelsea FC and Scotland’s Celtic FC face off on Saturday, July 27, at Notre Dame Stadium. ND employees are invited to a special ticket presale beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, March 25.

What it boils down to

Alan Seidler, chef manager of Corby Hall, goes through the painstaking process of producing syrup for Notre Dame’s religious houses, using sap tapped from campus maples. Seidler has been making maple syrup on campus for four years, and he expects to produce at least 20 gallons this year.
