Currently is now more than a weekly newsletter, it’s an information destination! For many years, Currently has been a informative, weekly newsletter for faculty and staff at PSU. Don’t worry — this trusty newsletter will continue to be published on Monday mornings, but you can also visit the Currently news hub all week long to find timely PSU workplace news, events, announcements, features and employee resources. Check out the new site and read more about how it’s useful for PSU employees.

Nominations open for PSU Excellence Awards

Now is the time to nominate your colleagues for their outstanding accomplishments here at Portland State University. Academic Affairs is seeking nominations for the 2023 Faculty and Staff Excellence Awards to recognize individuals who have outstanding scholarship accomplishments at Portland State University. Academic Affairs has descriptions of the awards. Instructions for submitting nominations can be found at the Excellence Awards page. Deadline to submit a cover page is Jan. 27, with the complete nomination due by Feb. 10.

Ryan Bass named Chief Information Officer

Ryan Bass was appointed Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Office of Information Technology (OIT) by Finance and Administration Vice President Kevin Reynolds. Bass has worked at PSU for 18 years, and was the interim CIO for the last nine months. You can read more about him and the work he has done at OIT at the new Currently news hub.

Beginning of term Resources at the Learning Center

The start of the term is here! Set your students up for success by letting them know they can meet with an academic coach or peer tutor from the Learning Center to set goals and discuss study strategies. Learning Center services are free and open to all students. Faculty and staff can also submit a request for our ROADS to Success presentation series on topics such as motivation, time management, and study strategies to be presented in your classes.

That’s a wrap! PSU Showcase is a success

The PSU Showcase, which wrapped up last month, shared dozens of stories from Portland State students, faculty and alumni with the community through a new media partnership with KOIN. Over the course of three months, this series reached a total of 220,000 viewers and ultimately raised $500,000 in support of Portland State. Thank you to everyone who came together to be involved in the showcase programming! You can still catch the hour-long showcase program on YouTube.

Urban Studies and Planning Aaron Golub talked with Think Out Loud about what tolls on I-5 and I-205 might look like in the next few years; PSU's Sahan Dissanayake, environmental economist and associate professor, spoke with PBJ about the direct and indirect effects of climate change on business; and Jessica Mole Heilman, the executive director of PSU’s Center for Women’s Leadership, gave the Oregonian insight into recent political gains by women.
