NeighborWorks sends team to Community Leadership Institute
Our organization recently sent five resident leaders and one staff member to attend the NeighborWorks America Community Leadership Institute (CLI) program in Charlotte, North Carolina. Our team joined other resident leaders and staff from 68 other NeighborWorks organizations, covering 31 U.S. States and Puerto Rico, at the first in-person CLI since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Attendees participate in various workshops, plenaries, regional breakout sessions, and learning labs/mobile tours, aimed at empowering resident leaders to make positive changes happen in their communities. Our team members will now work to plan and carry out a community improvement project in the Borough of Archbald, where each of our resident leaders reside.

Team members included Tamara Misewicz-Healey, Jamie Kane, Sarah Gabriel, Robert Turlip and Kayleigh Cornell. Gerard Hetman, our Community Development Specialist, served as staff coordinator for the team.

We are grateful to have excellent partners such as the PPL Corporation, who for the past 7 years have helped us with our Light The Town program in providing over 370 solar-powered security lights for older adult residents within the Scranton community.

These lights help improve community safety by lighting up dark streets at night in an energy efficient manner, while also supporting the organization's goal of helping seniors remain in their homes longer. Thank you PPL! Watch the video above to learn more about this partnership!
Listening session with Latinx / Hispanic community
Our staff and board had the privilege of meeting with five members of the LatinX / Hispanic community recently to discuss barriers that many of our Spanish-speaking neighbors face with housing and community involvment.
Our sincere thanks to Sarah Cruz from the Scranton School Board, Hector De La Cruz from the Florey Insurance Agency, Jose Flores from the Diocese of Scranton, Alejandra Marroquin from the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, and Silvana Benavides - Bilingual Realtor for joining us and for offering your time and expertise to our team!
