| Slow Down Icy Roads Exist |
Please use extra caution when driving through RVR during winter months. When the roads are icy and snowpacked, speeding becomes an even bigger risk. A speeding vehicle on slippery roads will increase the chances of a crash so please consider your safety and the safety of those around you.

The Vail Daily Newspaper has previously shared an article concerning Pedestrian Safety. Click here to view an important image that was highlighted in the article. Pedestrians are significantly less likely to survive collisions with vehicles that occur when the vehicles are traveling at faster speeds.

Roger Bumgarner passed away on December 24th, at his home in RVR. He was with his three incredible sons — Kent, Reid, and Ryan, when it was time to join Cheryl, who died just three weeks ago. Roger was 81.
Roger lived a full life, including a 50-year marriage to Cheryl. He will be missed by his many friends in Carbondale and Castle Rock, where he and Cheryl lived for 35 years before moving to the Roaring Fork Valley. In addition to his sons, he is survived by daughter-in-laws, Emily and Laura, and 10 grandchildren.

As a kind reminder, the Town of Carbondale has an ordinance to help preserve the view of the night sky. Residential outdoor lights are restricted in brightness and must be pointed down with a limited light arc. While the HOA does not regulate what time of the day exterior lighting should be turned off, many in the community have their lighting set on a timer so that lights are not on overnight, which also helps preserve the night sky.
We ask that homeowners please check their exterior lighting to make sure that it is dark sky compliant.
The Sopris Sun ran an article about dark sky in the valley. You can read it here: Reveling in our Dark Sky

Did you know that dog waste is an environmental hazard? According to the EPA, pet waste doesn't just decompose, it adds harmful bacteria to local waters when it is not disposed of properly. Animal waste can be a source of pollution that can create problems for water quality, and even human health.
Read more about how animal waste can be harmful to humans and pets alike at carbondale.com
Poop bags are provided in RVR year round at the regularly serviced waste stations. Please be a good neighbor and dog owner, and scoop the poop!
And don’t forget — Carbondale’s leash laws apply in RVR.

Thank You from Holiday Baskets Program
|
|
|
Pictured above, RVR homeowners gather to distribute Holiday Baskets to families in the Roaring Fork Valley.
|
|
Thank you to all our RVR neighbors for their wonderful participation in the Holiday Baskets Program this year supplying new gifts, food cards, clothing and toys for 257 families, over 1,000 individuals. People helped in so many ways; buying individual gifts, "adopting" entire families, donating money for City Market and other gift cards, transporting gifts, knitting hats, wrapping gifts, baking cookies for Stepping Stones, sorting packages, and assisting agencies on gift bag pick-up day. It was heartwarming to witness so many residents helping with this valley-wide project.

Thank you to our amazing RVR residents for your incredible generosity.

A note below from Michael Korber, RVR Ski Club Ambassador:
"The recent snow we have had at Snowmass has made skiing so good that the mountain opened a week early. Pictured above is the Snowmass Snow stake on November 28. What I am suggesting for starting the club on snow meetings, is that we let the holidays pass and give the mountain time to get things fully organized and the crowds to lighten. So, subject to weather and snow conditions, let’s plan to celebrate the new year by starting the club on Wednesday, Jan. 8th. Like last year we will meet at 10 a.m. at the Ullrhof. I will keep everyone posted and would appreciate it if you would let me know if you will be there on the eighth. Depending on how many of us are coming and how many groomers, bump, blue groomed and black groomed and ungroomed folks we have, we might take a little longer organizing that morning too. Looking forward to hearing from you all and enjoy the holidays with your family".
Please contact Mike if you’d like to join the RVR Ski Club at mbkorber@gmail.com or (401) 439-9132.

Qigong Moving Meditation for the New Year with
Cari Shurman |
Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 9 a.m. via Zoom - 45 minutes.
|
|
|
| Start the New Year with Balance and Focus.
Cari Shurman, our Qigong teacher, will lead a New Year’s Day moving meditation on Wednesday, 1 Jan. from 9 - 9:45 a.m.
The session will start with some gentle movements to wake up our energy and loosen our bodies. With focused breathing we connect to the earth for stability and balance. As we feel our internal energy, our chi, flowing we become more centered and calm. The session will end with a seated meditation called polarity to help us stay centered and balanced.
It is open to the public so please include your friends.

|
It is an ancient system of movement and meditation for health and longevity. Qigong (Chi Kung) started in China about 4000 years ago. It is offered in hospitals all over the US and the world to enhance medical treatments. Qigong increases energy flow in the body to all of the organs, helps us release stress and feel more relaxed in everything we do. It makes us feel better and it is easy to do!
Below is a link to a video of a 10 minute warm up to improve the flow of our chi (internal energy) first thing in the morning. You might enjoy trying it. And then join us for one of the two special classes being offered at the clubhouse in January. And of course our regular zoom classes are very beneficial whenever you can drop in. (Monday and Wednesday at 8 a.m.)

It can be done barefoot or with soft shoes that allow the foot to move freely.
-
Thursday, Jan. 23 from 6:45-7:45 p.m. QIGONG FOR BETTER SLEEP. Sleep is important for health at all ages. But it is not always easy to achieve! Come to this session prepared to relax, unwind and focus on falling asleep. Wear comfortable clothes, even pajamas. We will end the class lying down so please bring a jacket or something warm to wrap up in. All participants will receive an audio of the falling asleep meditation that you can use at home, lying in bed.
|
Cari Shurman, Certified Teacher of Qigong, has been twice to China to study at the Qigong Medical Center. Qigong is based on the same principles as Traditional Chinese Medicine - opening the body for healthy flow of energy to all organs, muscles, joints etc. Cari has been teaching Qigong for over 30 years and has developed a program based on Qigong called Tai Chi for Kids© that is taught in schools around this country and the world.
