Scripture Reflection

You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lamp stand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father. (Matthew 5:14-16)
We live in a world where we’re always connected to something. We’re never too far away from a news update, a new LinkedIn connection, or a trending tweet. Sure, social media might be great for maintaining professional and personal relationships, but how well are we staying “connected” with God compared to our “friends” and “followers”?
Though maybe not on Twitter, God has always been one of our followers, but sometimes we’re not always one of his. In the business of life, it’s easy to fall short.
Our professional and personal lives as well as our online persona all need to be connected, just like a shamrock. A shamrock has three leaves each connected and given life through a stem. That stem is our faith – giving life and a foundation for all parts of our lives.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus similarly challenges us to live out our faith in every part of our lives. Our faith isn’t meant to be hidden or segmented. It must be like a light that brightens a whole room, not just a corner.
This month, I pray that God unites all facets of our lives to be lights shining for Him. This world is calling all Pilots to burn bright.
