As we prepare for the 2026-2027 academic year, the Student Group Leader Training (SGLT) has a new format and a new completion requirement for all undergraduate student group presidents.

In previous years, student groups were required to send one officer to an in-person Saturday training session.

Beginning this year, every student group president must complete SGLT individually through Canvas . Training will be assigned based on the individual listed as president in your group's WUGO roster.

Students listed as president(s) for undergraduate SU or Campus Life-recognized student groups in WUGO will be automatically assigned the SGLT training in Canvas beginning July 31, 2026. New assignments will continue every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for groups that update their rosters in WUGO.

If you recently elected new officers, updating your roster promptly is critical to ensure the correct student receives the training assignment in Canvas.

Let's be honest, we heard the feedback loud and clear: spending an entire Saturday in a lecture hall during the first week of the semester was probably not anyone's idea of a great time.

By moving SGLT to a fully virtual format, presidents can complete the training on their own schedule, revisit important information when needed, and spend less time in a classroom and more time leading their organizations.

While the format has changed, the goal remains the same: helping student group leaders start the year informed, prepared, and set up for success.

Not sure if your president information is current in WUGO?

Log into the WUGO admin dashboard, search for your organization, the click on the roster tab at the top. Check that your officers are correct. If not, make the necessary adjustments.

Please do not wait until the last minute. Set aside time early in August to work through the modules.

*If a student group has more than one (1) president listed on their WUGO roster - each president must complete the required SGLT training.

The wait is almost over! Starting August 29th, student groups may officially begin hosting/participating in events, meetings, programs, and activities for the Fall 2026 semester. Review below how you can ensure your student group is eligible to begin programming.

Student undergraduate student groups must have their president(s) complete SGLT in order to begin programming (holding/participating in events, programs or activities) on the first day of programming. Provided that your student group president(s) has completed SGLT, your group will be permitted to begin programming on Saturday, August 29, 2026.  

Those groups who have not had their president(s) complete SGLT, will be temporarily deactivated in WUGO on Wednesday, August 26th and will not reactivated nor be permitted to program until SGLT has been completed.

The Student Union (SU) Activities Fair is WashU's signature involvement event, where student groups showcase what they do and recruit new members. Whether students are looking for leadership opportunities, community service, cultural organizations, academic groups, or just a new way to get involved, the Activities Fair is the perfect place to start.

Trifolds and poster-making materials for SU-recognized student groups will be available in the SU / Campus Life Office beginning: Monday, August 24, 2026 (while supplies last). The office is located in the Danforth University Center (DUC), Suite 270 between the hours of 8:30 AM - 5 PM.

Your student group can sign up now on WUGO to signal you would like to participate and table at the fall 2026 Activities Fair. Complete the registration form no later than:

Immediately following the Activities Fair, student group presidents and officers are invited to gather at Bowles Plaza (the courtyard between Umrath Lounge and Subway) for an evening of community, celebration, and connection.
