Q&A With WLN Chair Valerie Pritchett

United Way of the Capital Region’s Women’s Leadership Network (WLN) welcomes its 2016 chair, Valerie Pritchett, news anchor for abc27. We recently asked Val to share a little bit about her background, her history with WLN and her vision for the future. Here’s what she had to say…

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?

A: In addition to working as a news anchor at abc27, I’ve always been a community volunteer. When I turned 18, I actually became a volunteer emergency medical technician. I’m an Air Force dependent (or brat as we are jokingly called) so I come from a family devoted to service.

WLN New Members Reception Highlights

More than 120 women attended United Way of the Capital Region’s Women’s Leadership Network’s (WLN) New Members Reception at WITF’s Public Media Center in April. Attendees networked with other members and took a behind-the-scenes tour of WITF’s operations. Featured speaker, WITF President and CEO Kathleen Pavelko, talked about the importance of serving the community and her strong dedication to philanthropy and volunteerism.

During the event, 2016 WLN Chair Valerie Pritchett announced that WLN’s 760 members raised more than $1,258,000 in 2015 to help our community. This could not have been achieved without you - our donors, volunteers and champions. Thank you for LIVING UNITED!

WLN Teams Up with TFEC for Healthy Snack Packing Event

Together we can achieve more! Women’s Leadership Network’s (WLN) and The Foundation for Enhancing Communities’ (TFEC) Women’s Fund recently joined forces to collect and pack healthy snack items for local children.

Thousands of parents struggle each day to feed their families. When schools ends for the summer, these parents are no longer able to depend on school breakfast and lunch programs to supply two healthy meals a day for their children. Thanks to the efforts of WLN and TFEC’s Women’s Fund, 1,200 healthy snack packs will be distributed to hungry children in the Capital Region.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the project! Together we are working to ensure that no child goes hungry this summer.
