2019 Novel Coronavirus Update from ADH
| |
The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) has issued interim guidance to state agencies and health care workers related to the outbreak of 2019 Novel Coronavirus in Wuhan, China. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to closely monitor the outbreak centered in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. As recently as today, Friday, Jan. 24, the Chinese government has expanded its screening and monitoring of its citizens to additional cities.
The CDC has begun screening travelers who have traveled from or through the province at several major airports in the United States. The CDC also issued a Level Three Warning for travelers related to the outbreak to avoid nonessential travel to Wuhan.
Person-to-person spread of the virus is suspected, and while the majority of cases identified to date are in China, travelers who have returned from the area have been confirmed in Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and the United States. To date, there are no cases in Arkansas.
Any students, faculty or staff of Arkansas State who traveled from or through the region should be aware of these alerts, and if you have any health concerns check in with your physician or local health clinic. The A-State Travel Office is currently reviewing any travel scheduled to China, and if you have upcoming plans, please contact them immediately.
If you have further questions, go to the CDC’s outbreak update website or the ADH’s health updates page.
