The College of Sciences launched a new Healthcare Mentoring Scholarship Program this Fall. With support from a grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, the program is targeted to first-generation students who intend to pursue a career in healthcare.

Mt. Carmel Students Visit UNO |
On October 14, 28 Mt. Carmel juniors visited UNO as part of Mt. Carmel’s annual STREAM Day field trip series to learn more about science and art careers. The students tried BeyondReality@UNO’s virtual reality training tools with Dr. Matt Tarr and learned about information technology research and careers from Dr. Ben Samuel, Dr. Redwan Newaz and Dr. Shreya Banerjee from the UNO Department of Computer Science. According to Mt. Carmel, "The students RAVED about this experience."

Biological Sciences Student Wins for Presentation |
Biological sciences graduate student Emily Mailhos presented at the Louisiana Association of Professional Biologists Meeting on October 3 in Lafayette. She won 2nd place for her oral presentation titled "Assessing the Reproductive Ecology of the Federally Threatened Gopher Tortoise in Louisiana".

Sixteen College of Sciences students were recognized for their academic achievements at the annual UNO Athletics Academic Honors Night. Sciences students with GPA’s above 3.0 were recognized in three categories.
