John Ott appointed Interim Dean of CLAS |
John Ott has been named interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), stepping into the role today, March 17, as Todd Rosenstiel transitions to his new position at Georgia State University. A longtime faculty member, chair and historian of medieval Europe, Ott brings a wealth of leadership experience and scholarship to the position.

Federal Actions update: Research commitments and investigation response
|
Portland State University continues to closely monitor the federal actions impacting higher education. Updates are now posted on the Federal Actions page about research commitments at PSU and a response to the March 10 announcement that PSU is one of 60 universities under investigation for alleged antisemitic discrimination and harassment.

Your input is needed to help improve PSU's operations |
PSU is working to enhance administrative processes in Finance, Human Resources, and Marketing & Communications to create a better work experience while ensuring financial sustainability. Do you perform tasks in those areas? Even if it's only a small part of your job, the Operational Excellence Steering Committee wants your input to help prioritize improvements.
There is a 5-minute survey for sharing your feedback. Responses are anonymous and will guide efforts to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.

March 13 Budget Forum now available for viewing |
The budget forum hosted by Vice President of Finance and Administration Andria Johnson on Thursday, March 13 is now available for viewing on the PSU website. Part of the forum was interactive and included surveys — those surveys are still open and viewers are encouraged to take them when prompted during the recording. Links and QR codes to the surveys are included in the presentation.

Make your voice heard on the 2025-2026 tuition rate |
Based on forecasted revenues and expenses for PSU, the Tuition Review Advisory Committee (TRAC) is considering three tuition increase options for the upcoming academic year. Please see the tuition flyer that summarizes these options and provides more information at the link below.

Join us as we honor Dr. King's legacy and engage in thoughtful reflection during a public reading of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Letter from Birmingham Jail.
This powerful event will be followed by a community discussion as we reflect on where we are, what is needed and how we can support each other. This event is more than a reading—it’s a space to connect, be in community, think critically, and discuss how we, as a community, can continue to advance the ideals Dr. King so passionately championed.

PSU President Ann Cudd honored as a Woman of Influence |
Portland State President Ann Cudd was recognized at the Portland Business Journal’s Women of Influence 2025 event last week, a fitting honor during Women’s History Month. The award celebrates her leadership and impact at PSU and beyond. In the spirit of recognizing inspiring women, the Inside Portland State blog is featuring six current female students who are making their mark as leaders and changemakers.

Know a graduating student with a powerful message to share? We’re seeking student speakers for all commencement ceremonies! Most ceremonies accept applications through April 13. The College of the Arts, the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health, and the School of Business (graduate speaker) use a nomination process.

University Communications features graduates each year in celebration of commencement and is seeking nominations for our 2025 storytelling. Graduates may be featured in profiles on the PDX.edu website, on social media, in marketing materials and in pitches to the media. Bring Your Kids to Campus Day provides a full day of activities that will educate and entertain your children — hosted by departments and student clubs in locations all over campus.
