The California special election is fast approaching on November 4, 2025. Encourage your student to make their voice heard. The deadline to register to vote is October 20, 2025. If your student still needs to register, update their address, or change their party affiliation, it only takes a few minutes. Students who have moved since the last election must re-register at their current address to ensure they receive their mail-in ballot.

Students can register easily at:
castudentvote.org (for California students)

Dean of Students Joaquin Becerra (‘06 BA Chicano Studies and Psychology, ‘24 PhD Education) thinks of himself as “the first-gen dean.” Now entering his second year in the role, “Dean Joaquin” has dedicated his career to making higher education a more equitable and welcoming place for all students. Becerra completed his PhD work on how Minority Serving Institutions can best serve their diverse populations and is now putting his academic work into practice.
Dean Joaquin is constantly thinking about ways to engage in healthy dialogue on critical issues, engage in restorative practices, and making sure that UCSB students are able to express themselves freely, whether that’s by responding to expressive events on campus, attending weekly Associated Students Senate meetings, or facilitating identity and cultural development for our students. This year, Dean Joaquin is looking forward to continuing to build relationships with his diverse student constituents and uplifting the voices of all students as they navigate our beautiful campus. Connect with Dean Joaquin on Instagram @UCSBDeanJoaquin or by emailing him at deanjoaquin@ucsb.edu.

Resource of the Month: Campus Store |
The Campus Store, located in the University Center, is your student’s one-stop shop for everything they need to succeed at UC Santa Barbara. From textbooks, technology, and school supplies to UCSB apparel, gifts, and dorm essentials, the Campus Store combines convenience, value, and Gaucho pride all in one place.
Students can buy, rent, or access digital textbooks, and take advantage of the Textbook Buyback Program each quarter to earn cash back on used books. The store also offers Apple student pricing, UC discounts on Adobe Creative Cloud, and on-site Apple-certified computer repair and technical support, including online repair appointments for added convenience.
Students can shop online for textbooks, apparel, and gifts, with the option for free in-store pickup. Plus, sustainability is built into the mission through programs like the Lab Coat Recycling initiative, where students can trade in old gear for Campus Store rewards.
Whether your student needs course materials, a tech tune-up, or a new sweatshirt to show their Gaucho spirit, the Campus Store has them covered. Visit in person or shop anytime at campusstore.ucsb.edu.
