City of Boulder Office of Arts + Culture
Thanks for attending the fourth Cultural Summit
July 13, 2016 at the Dairy Arts Center

About 50 representatives from cultural organizations met on Wednesday, July 13, at the Dairy Arts Center to explore ways for organizations to pool resources, collaborate and form synergistic relationships.

In a questionnaire sent out before the meeting, three main areas were identified for discussion pointing out  where more support was needed:
1) “Outward” functions including: collaboration, fundraising, venues and facility sharing, outreach to underserved populations, mentoring and being mentored
2) “Inward” functions including: business functions, operations, insurance, human resources, planning, start-up and legal
3) Communications

The gathering divided into three subgroups based on annual budgets for further brainstorming and discussion with their peers.
Information on  topics and results of the discussions are posted on the BoulderArts.org site.
Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 Organization Survey
Due August 5!
All non-profit cultural organizations in Boulder should have received a letter from Americans for the Arts (AFTA), with a link to fill out an organization survey for the AFTA Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 study.

This study is extremely important as it allows all of us to collect data and quantify the economic impact of arts and culture in Boulder.  The study measures the impact of arts spending on local jobs, the effect of cultural tourism, and revenue generated by the arts to local and state governments. The results of the study will be used to continue encouraging private and public spending on the arts, and is useful to you in advocating for the success of your organization. It is also consistently used by the Congressional Arts Caucus on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to promote federal arts support.

Don’t miss the opportunity to have your organization included in this snapshot of Boulder cultural economy.  The deadline is August 5; we urge you to encourage the leadership of your favorite organizations to fill out this survey immediately.
If you have not received an email with the link, please contact  help@culturaldata.org to request your link and/or to be added to the list of eligible organizations.

Looking for artist mentors for teens

Boulder High School is looking to create an artist mentor database for teens all over Boulder County.  This would be used for teens to apprentice with artists in small or large ways.  The database would be a visual arts program for now, with hopes of expanding the program to other art disciplines in the future.  Note: members of the NOBO Art District are already in the database.
Artists needing specific task help would post their requirements.  Students would look for a mentor, contact the artists, and then artist/teen/parents/guardians would meet and approve mentorship.
If interested, please contact BHS art teacher Virginia Schick for more information, virginia.schick@bvsd.org.
The Community Cultural Plan is a city-wide initiative from the City of Boulder Library & Arts Department, Office of Arts & Culture.  For more information, please visit www.boulderarts.org.
