Consecration (Giving) Sunday

For the last four Sundays, the Stewardship Campaign has focused on the mission statement of Parkway Hills UMC: “Welcome, Grow, Serve, and Celebrate”. We have been challenged to reflect on what it means to say, “We are Parkway Hills”, and in what ways we live into our commitment to welcome, grow, serve, and celebrate. The result has been an outpouring of testimonials from fellow parishioners who have chosen to make welcome, spiritual growth, service, and celebration part of their walk of discipleship.  These stories have shown the impact that prayerful giving and pledging can have on our church as we seek to spread Jesus' message of “love one another” and “make disciples.”
Now it's your turn! This Sunday, November 12, 2017 will be Consecration Sunday. Consecration Sunday is a time for introspection on giving from a spiritual perspective rather than a fundraising perspective. It focuses on the question, "What is God calling me to do?”
You should have received a pledge card and envelope in the mail in the last 30 days requesting that you prayerfully consider your financial commitment to Parkway Hills in support of our missions. Please take a few moments this week to complete your pledge card and mail it in - or even better - bring it with you Sunday, November 12, 2017!
This Sunday will be an exciting time of worship, prayer, and gift-giving.
You don’t want to miss it!!
May God bless and keep you and your family,
Tony Haines

Backpack BuddieZ FundraiZer

On Monday, December 4th, from 4:00- 9:00 pm, SchlotZsky's Deli will donate 15% of your meal price back to PHUMC to fill weekend backpackZ for East Flora Elementary studentZ from food-insecure householdZ.
(Each backback contains 6 shelf-stable meals, providing enough nourishment to allow the children to arrive back at school on Monday ready to learn!)
Last week, we received an email from the EFES Principal thanking us for our continued commitment to the backpack program. Dr. Capucine Robinson says, "The meals help my students soooo much. Your work is not in vain. Because of the support and the prayers from Parkway Hills UMC, East Flora has moved up two levels this year. We are now a 'C'."
WOWZA! This is an incredible achievement! Let's keep it up until they reach level 'A'. Our goal is to have at least 50 families make a reZervation and commit to eat with us at SchlotZsky's to make this fundraiZer work. So, mark your calendar for December 4th, and make planZ to gather with lotZ of good friendZ for dinner. There will be lotZ of good food 4 you, and you can do lotZ of good 4 EFES students!
Can't commit for this date? Support the Backpack Ministry anytime online or through the Give+ Mobile app.
Giving to Parkway Hills United Methodist Church is now as convenient as ordering a book or buying tickets to a football game online with our new, free e-giving mobile app, Give+ Church.
After downloading Give+ from the App Store, giving is as easy as 1-2-3:
  1. Search Give+ for PHUMC using “Parkway Hills” or “39110” and select the church.
  2. Select a fund(s) and the amount(s) you want to donate and enter your credit/debit card or bank account information.
  3. Submit your donation.
You may choose to donate as a guest or create an account so you can easily log in with your email address to make additional donations, set up or manage recurring donations, and review your Give+ donation history.
Give+ helps you manage and grow your giving to PHUMC, which in turn helps to grow the service and outreach of our church. Try it today!
For more information, check out the helpful How it Works Guide or refer to these Frequently Asked Questions for Donors.
If your school or neighborhood doesn't have a Veterans Day observance,
you may attend the annual wreath laying ceremony on the front lawn of the Hinds County Courthouse in Jackson this Friday, November 10th at 9:30 am.
But, whatever your plans are, be sure to thank a Veteran this week!
An invitation to Grow your Faith this Advent
Usually when we think of the Advent story, Mary, Joseph, and the angel Gabriel come to mind. This year, we invite you to approach Advent a little differently; sit for a while with Zechariah and Elizabeth and the story of how they came to bear their only son, John. The Advent story we so often associate with the joy of Christmas actually begins with deep sorrow and longing. But thankfully, in the kingdom of God, there is always more to the story than meets the eye!
We urge you to join us this Advent, (and invite friends to join us, too!), when as a church family, we grow our faith together by reading through beautifully written, imaginative meditations each day, looking closely at the doubts and longings of Zechariah and Elizabeth. You may pay online, ($10), to reserve your copy of the book. Or, you may 'Give By Text'! Text this message: $10 Advent to 601-509-4735. (The very first time you 'Give By Text' you will have to register your credit/debit card information and email address. Thereafter, simply send the applicable text message and your card will be charged automatically.)
There was a lot of "celebrating" going on last Sunday evening when a great group turned out to "serve" the Lord with glitter! Our Chrismon ornaments look GREAT - you will be able to see them after the youth decorate our tree Sunday, November 26th at 6 pm.
