Physics Professor Coaches Middle School Scientists to State Science Olympiad |
Cheers to UNO physics professor Kendal Leftwich and graduate student Grace Davidson who coached two middle school teams that competed and placed at the Louisiana Science Olympiad on April 13 at Louisiana Christian University.

Drs. Webb and Seab on Eclipse |
With so much interest in the total solar eclipse on April 8th, our faculty stepped up to provide their expertise to both UNO and the local community. On March 14, mathematics instructor Dr. Joel Webb and astrophysicist Dr. Greg Seab presented eclipse-related talks to the Learning Before Lunch group. Dr. Webb gave a presentation entitled "Eclipses, Astronomy and Civilizations: A Brief History," and Dr. Seab spoke about eclipse safety and demonstrated how to create a pinhole viewer.

UNO Grad Student Wins Award for Presentation |
UNO biology Ph.D. candidate Adam Quade recently won an award at the 98th Meeting of the Louisiana Academy of Sciences at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Quade's award-winning presentation, "Navigating Changing Environmental Contexts: Flood-pulse Inundation Mediates Collective Behaviors of Schooling Fishes in a Lower Mississippi River Basin Floodplain," is part of his ongoing research in Dr. Kelly Boyle's lab.

| EES Students Field Trip Coincides With Eclipse |
UNO Earth and Environmental Sciences students took part in a 5-day field trip to the Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas in early April as part of their Stratigraphy and Sedimentology course led by Dr. Robert Mahon.
The trip, funded by the UNO Office of Experiential Learning, exposed the students to world class sedimentary rocks, and was capped off by a perfect view of totality of the solar eclipse. The students compiled their best images of the event into a poster (above) for the department.

COS Undergrads Participate in UL System Academic Summit |
College of Sciences undergraduate students traveled to Louisiana Tech University April 11-12 for the 13th annual UL System Academic Summit. Students who won top placement in the 2023 InnovateUNO showcase were invited to attend.

Dr. Steve Johnson, dean of the College of Sciences, and Dr. Darrell Kruger, UNO Provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, welcomed COS students and guests to our 49th annual Honors Day ceremony on April 7.

The Great Falls Hospital is pleased to welcome Debra Hebert, DO, to our emergency team. Dr. Hebert is a highly experienced emergency room physician who has treated patients in a variety of settings since 2003. She will take care of patients who visit the Great Falls Hospital Emergency Room.
