Bond Projects Update: Community Center Playground

The new playground on the east side of the Community Center is underway and is anticipated to open Memorial Day weekend. The dinosaur-themed playground is geared toward 5-12 year olds and will have a poured-in-place surface. The current playground on the west side of the building will remain and is ideal for younger children. If you have any questions or comments, email bondprojects@kcranch.org.

Wildfire Evacuation Drill May 21

There will be a Wildland Fire Evacuation Exercise in the Valley and the North Ranch on Saturday, May 21 to simulate a real-life emergency and test evacuation procedures. The exercise will begin at 8 a.m., and the voluntary evacuation will start at 9 a.m. Some area schools have graduation May 21, but please know that no roads will be closed and residents will have complete access to the area. The only difference is an increase in law enforcement and fire apparatus traffic in the area, which should end by 2 p.m. Residents of the area will receive an evacuation notice via telephone. Residents who have signed up for CodeRed will also receive notification via smartphone.

Community Meeting for Deer Creek Golf Course Rezoning

There will be a community meeting on Thursday, May 12 at 6 p.m. at Terrace Gardens Event Center, 11851 Shaffer Drive, to discuss possible rezoning of a portion of Deer Creek Golf Course. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss possible rezoning for residential a portion of the golf course in order to fund preservation of the 18-hole golf course and open space. Landowners are seeking rezoning from industrial and office use to Residential Planned Development to build 130 single-family and attached homes. Cardel Homes is the potential builder. For plan details, see the Jeffco Planning & Zoning website.

Free Class on Identifying Camouflage

Join Gabrielle Chisholm with Ken-Caryl Ranch’s KC Nature program to learn what the different plants are that make up your camo. This fun, free presentation will be Friday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Cabela's in Lone Tree. The group will explore the different displays throughout the store to see how well animals blend into their environment, and identify what plants they are using to hide. There will also be a drawing for two $50 Cabela’s gift cards.
