Owl Spotlight
Senior Devon Spiegelman joined WISH as a 4th grader and quickly proved himself to be an exceptional scholar. He credits his academic success to the amazing teachers he has had during his tenure at WISH. He says, "The teachers at WISH are really easy to connect with. They are always accessible and it is easy to relate to them. They give you one-on-one attention if you need it and you don't always get that at other schools." For the last two years, Devon has served as part of our LINK crew, connecting with incoming students to help them transition to the High School experience, and a member of our National Honor Society. Devon is a huge sports fan and is currently trying to decide where he should pursue his Computer Science major having been accepted to Villanova, Penn State, and Purdue, as well as a few UCs. Wherever he lands, we know he will continue to be an exceptional scholar. Congratulations, Devon!

In the Classroom
WISH prides itself on our inclusive learning environment, so it follows that one of our favorite classes at the Academy is American Sign Language. Ms. K is a dedicated and engaged teacher who strives to make her classes fun, and our teens feel that. "I love these kids and seeing their growth in American Sign Language makes me so happy! The perseverance, fun, and constant joy they bring to the classroom and each other makes this a great place to teach," she says.

Good TimesWISH Academy's first major theatrical performance, Dream Big! was a stellar success, as our talented WAHS performers dazzled us with a selection of Broadway numbers that celebrated women in art, literature, and history. It was an original show by theatre teacher Janet Landon, in collaboration with students Ali Alcazar and Mira Keller. Audiences were blown away by the talents of the performers, and the creativity of the performance. The cast even received a certificate from Mayor Karen Bass' office. It was a great night for our WISH community!

Sports SuperstarsMadison Martin is a senior at WISH Academy and a shining star on both the indoor and beach volleyball teams. Madison has been on the varsity volleyball team since her freshman year. As an all-around player, she has had All-League and All-City nominations each year and has helped lead her team to the league championships every year she's played. As well as being a powerhouse in volleyball, she has also received accolades in recognition of her academic success. Madison is truly an amazing WISH scholar-athlete and we're so proud of her.

Hoots Student
"I just transferred to WISH this semster and the best part of the school so far are the teachers. It's hard to choose my favorite but Mr. Hernandez, Ms. Grande and Ms. Villafana are really great."
--Pierceson Briggs, 9th Grade
Family
"I currently have a 16-year-old daughter attending attending WISH Academy HS (as well as a 6-year-old son at WISH Elementary). My daughter Lailah is a vocalist and musician and was so excited to be a part of the first school musical, “Dream Big”, which premiered last weekend! WISH has played a significant role in helping her to further develop her vocal abilities and excel academically. She has had wonderful experiences working with the music department and staff members at WISH. Many of the staff members go above and beyond to ensure that the students succeed in executing every task that they are presented with. She has been positively influenced by teachers that have become mentors and role models for her."
--Myesha A., Parent of Lailah, 10th grade (and DJ, Kindergarten)
Faculty
"Teaching here at WISH has been a highlight of my 24+ year teaching career. The great WISH community is a positive learning environment that focuses on treating everyone as lifelong learners." --Mr. Jim Croal, Geometry & Algebra Teacher
