PRESIDENT'S CABINET LETTER

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Friends of De La Salle,
The opening months of the 2022-2023 school year have witnessed a wonderful return to a number of DLS/CHS traditions, even as we continue to adapt to the changing times and needs of our students. We have already celebrated the Mass of the Holy Spirit as well as class liturgies, rallies, dances, a play, multiple athletic events, a Winton Drive club fair, Kairos, and more.
As you may have seen on our social media accounts, there has also been a lot to celebrate. First and foremost, please join me in congratulating Mr. Terry Eidson, who will be receiving at the national Huether conference in November the District of San Francisco New Orleans’ 2022 Distinguished Lasallian Educator Award. In addition, we are delighted to congratulate a number of our students who received national recognition for their academic

On September 23rd, we were honored to announce that the following students were recognized as Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program: Jack Christensen, Benjamin Gronbach, James Lakin, and Anton Van Oppen.

| Get ready! De La Salle Giving Week is around the corner.
Each year, you, members of our treasured community, are asked to invest in what we do here on Winton Drive. After four years of instrumental support, we thought we’d shake things up. De La Salle Giving Day is now De La Salle Giving Week so that we can properly showcase how, through your gifts, we are able to make a significant difference in the lives of our Spartans. Each day we will share examples of how your hard-earned dollars help create De La Salle joy in the classroom, on the field and stage, and so much more.
We hope you will Share in the Joy of Giving later this month! Or you can get a head start and donate today!

CEREAL DRIVE - OCTOBER 3-21
|
|
|
|
Fall is here and that means it’s time for our 22nd Annual De La Salle Cereal Drive. The Cereal Drive will run from October 3rd through October 21st.
To participate, donations can either be dropped off at the Hofmann Center before school, or students can deliver cereal boxes to their 6th period teacher. The De La Salle community can also donate directly through PayPal.
This year we will once again be collecting cereal boxes for Monument Crisis Center in Concord. De La Salle students are hoping to collect 5,000 boxes of cereal. That will equate to 5,000 more students in Contra Costa County being able to enjoy breakfast each morning.

Get your tickets now for De La Salle’s Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Sunday, October 23. They cost $40 for adults and $15 for children aged 5 through 12. This is your chance to honor some truly great De La Salle legends like Major League Soccer star Chris Wondolowski, football and track phenome Atari Callen, and CIF state basketball champion A.J. Kuhle. We will also be recognizing our very own swimming and diving coach, Steve Guthrie, and De La Salle’s first lacrosse head coach, Robert O’Meara.

Mark your calendar and purchase tickets!!! Theatre Company's Fall Production starts later this month.
R & J & Z is equally inspired by Shakespeare and modern zombie films. It pushes the boundaries of theatrical humor and horror and explores what might have happened if Romeo and Juliet had a second chance. The play begins with Act V of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and keeps going as the famous lovers navigate a world in which death isn't necessarily the end.
Tickets cost only $15 for adults and $10 for students and alumni. And, as an added treat, costumes are encouraged on October 28 and 29. Click here to purchase your tickets today!

De La Salle High School, in conjunction with College Board, offers Advanced Placement (AP) programs that present college-level curricula and examinations to high school students. American colleges and universities often grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores on the examinations.
If your son is taking an AP class, it is expected that he sign up for the AP test, which will take place in the first two weeks of May. You will need to pay for each individual test that your son takes. Your son will also need to register for their AP classroom with their teacher. Please note while signing up whether or not your son is taking Physics 1 or Physics C, also Calculus AB or Calculus BC. To avoid a late fee, registration and payment for AP testing are due by October 7, 2022.

Counting My Blessings: A Love Letter of Sorts by Lynne Jones
|
|
|
|
Retiring from De La Salle has me reflecting on all the blessings of my last eight and a half years. I got to reach the pinnacle of my career here, becoming the Chief Financial Officer of this big, busy ministry and operation. Every day has brought something new to learn, from drone pilot licensing, solar power inverters, and well water backflow preventers, to pandemic response and obtaining and managing an $11 million dollar construction loan. It has been a busy, productive, and very rewarding time! Among the many blessings:...

Do you know any 8th-grade families that might be interested in De La Salle for their son? If so, there are three great events where prospective Spartans can get a real feel for our school.
Next week, De La Salle will hold One Night Only, a behind-the-scenes visual and performing arts interactive workshop for artistic middle schoolers. Then, on November 8 and November 16, there will be two more Spartan for a Day events. (This is a shadow program where future students get to experience what it is like to go to De La Salle). Last, we invite all interested families to join us at our Open House on Sunday, November 6.
For more information, visit De La Salle Admissions, or email admissions@dlshs.org.

As we enter into the month of October, we continue our journey praying and working for peace during these International Lasallian Days for Peace.
St. Oscar Romero reminds us:
Peace is not the product of terror or fear.
Peace is not the silence of cemeteries.
Peace is not the silent result of violent repression.
Peace is the generous, tranquil contribution of all to the good of all.

DE LA SALLE BRAND GUIDELINES
|
|
|
We appreciate how many of you rock our Spartan gear and we are always open to new ideas for future merchandise. However, when it comes to producing new items for a team or club, we want to highlight that we adhere to strict De La Salle brand guidelines. In an effort to maintain consistent school branding, our logos are trademarked and cannot be used on any items (even personal items), without De La Salle Cabinet approval (CA Registration Nos. 02020084, 02020085, 02020086, 02020087). As such, the school will not give out its logos to individuals and it is unlikely that we will grant approval for items that we cannot produce ourselves.
