Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
I would like to sincerely thank my Pirate family for the kind and thoughtful congratulatory messages regarding my new appointment. I will do my best to reply to your notes, although I am afraid it will take me a long time to go through the list. Your support was overwhelming, and I thank you for your kindness. While I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead, there is still important work to be done here, and I look forward to collaborating with all of you as I complete my tenure at Seton Hall. The spring semester is already filled with exciting events that reflect the vibrant spirit of our community.
Yesterday, at our annual MLK Day Symposium, students and community members came together to reflect on and engage with Dr. King’s enduring vision. I would like to thank the College of Arts and Sciences and the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies for sponsoring this meaningful event, which continues to inspire, unite and strengthen our community.
Looking ahead, another signature event for our community is the Petersheim Academic Exposition, which will take place from Tuesday, April 22 to Saturday, April 26, 2025. Now in its 29th year, this exposition serves as an important platform for faculty and students across all disciplines to share their scholarly work, contributing to the academic vibrancy of Seton Hall.
The planning committee is currently accepting proposals for events from faculty and other members of the University community. Submit your event proposal here: Petersheim Event Form. Additionally, the committee is inviting abstract submissions, which can be submitted here: Abstract Submission Form.
Please encourage your students as well! The Expo is a wonderful opportunity for them to not only showcase their academic work, but gain experience in formal presentations, build their resume and much more. Please note that the deadline for abstract submissions is Friday, March 14, 2025.
Thank you for your continued dedication to our university. I look forward to a rewarding and collaborative semester together.

Professor Donvan Sherman Explores Early Modern Live Theater
Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of English, Donovan Sherman furthers the arts conversation around live theater and related intellectual thought. As Anthology Editor of the 2023 book, Early Modern Liveness (Bloomsbury), Professor Sherman explores what it meant for early modern theatre to be 'live', and how over time, experiences of live theater have changed. The recent expansive collection includes theater works from the 16th and 17th centuries onward. Sherman's earlier book, The Philosopher’s Toothache: Embodied Stoicism in Early Modern English Drama (Northwestern), explored Stoic philosophy in Shakespeare's day.
