Dear Friends of the India Center at UCF,
The UCF India Center has been busy since our last newsletter, and it was a pleasure to see many of you at our events, either in person or virtually.
Celebrating Republic Day with community members, faculty, and students here at UCF was one of our highlights, and we were honored and delighted that Dr. Swati Kulkarni, Consul General of India in Atlanta, delivered the keynote address. The Consul General also honored the India Center by dedicating an India Corner, the first one dedicated by the Consulate in Atlanta. The dedication included a donation of numerous books about India to enhance the India Center.
Another highlight was our virtual discussion with author Geetanjali Shree and translator Daisy Rockwell, the 2022 International Booker Prize winners for the book Tomb of Sand. The India Center also hosted Katherine B. Hadda, a former diplomat, on campus, who discussed the relationship between the U.S. and India. She also engaged students in a diplomacy career workshop.
In addition to public events, the India Center continues to explore and expand educational opportunities for students, and faculty and institutional collaborations in India. We have also added new digital content to our website. In partnership with WUCF's Global Perspectives, you can view interviews with Katherine B. Hadda and Kal Penn as part of our India Matters interview series.
We have three more events planned before the end of spring semester. We welcome author Nilosree Biswas, who will discuss her book on the history of Bengali food in Calcutta in a virtual event. In April, we look forward to hosting a virtual panel of leading Indian health care experts who will examine India’s transition to digital healthcare. Finally, we are excited to host an in-person event with Guneeta Singh Bhalla, the director of the 1947 Partition Archive. You can find details about these events below.
We invite you to join us for these discussions, which are free and open to the public.
We are grateful for your support,
