| Tim Lieuwen Named Georgia Techās Executive Vice President for Research |
Following a nationwide search, Georgia Tech President Ćngel Cabrera has namedĀ Timothy Lieuwen the Executive Vice President for Research (EVPR)..Ā
Ā
A proud Georgia Tech alumnus (M.S. ME 1997, Ph.D. ME 1999), Lieuwen has spent more than 25 years at the Institute. He is a Regentsā Professor and holds the David S. Lewis, Jr. Chair in theĀ Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering. Prior to the interim EVPR role, Lieuwen served as executive director of theĀ Strategic Energy Institute for 12 years.

| AE Professor Masatoshi Hirabayashi Studies Compelling Way to Deflect Asteroids From Earth |
Georgia Tech Professor Masatoshi HirabayashiāsĀ critical contribution to DART was recently published inĀ Nature Communications. The study, āElliptical ejecta of asteroid Dimorphos is due to its surface curvatureā analyzed the behavior of fragments coming out by the high-speed DART impact and their push of the asteroid. This work was in collaboration with ProfessorĀ Fabio FerrariĀ from Politecnico di Milano, who jointly published the study, āMorphology of ejecta features from the impact on asteroid Dimorphos.āĀ Ā
