We in the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital's Cardiology Service are so very grateful for all that you have done and continue to do to support our cardiology program and the patients we treat! Because of you, we continue to move forward with advancements in veterinary cardiology.

The mission of Heart Trust is to support cardiovascular health, projects, and clinical trials for companion animals and to honor special pets, animal enthusiasts, veterinarians, and animal professionals. Heart Trust was established in 2008.

COVID-19 has thrown us all for a loop this year, but we have continued to hold to our missions of providing care for pets at the VMTH while maintaining our training, teaching, and research programs. We have a wonderful team in cardiology and value your support!

Our Research Projects
We have many ongoing research projects related to all aspects of heart disease, including:
  • AKC Canine Health Foundation – Working to develop a comprehensive description of heart disease in dogs with asymptomatic Chagas disease (those testing positive for Trypanosoma cruzi).  The data from this study will help us in the design and development of a staging system for Chagas disease and both treatment and preventative studies.
  • Characterizing normal hearts and incidence of heart disease in the Borzoi breed.
  • Defining normal echocardiographic anatomy of the mitral valve in healthy Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
Your Support
Your donations have been instrumental in providing funding to support our research projects as well as to help dogs that required cardiac evaluations, advanced imaging, or procedures to correct their heart disease. Given the hardships these days, this support has been invaluable.
Help us save a beating heart! Future goals for the cardiology program include:
  • Endowed positions, such as faculty chairs and endowed residents
  • Continued support for pets, projects, and clinical trials
  • An additional echocardiographic machine for cadiac ultrasound (approximately $200,000)
  • 3D imaging and continued development of novel training models and simulators (approximately $10,000)
  • Siemens CT Angiography upgrade to improve cardiac imaging which requires a rapid scan time for high-quality images (approximately $167,000)
