Now Accepting Nominations for Volunteer of the Year Awards
United Way of the Capital Region’s Volunteer Center is accepting nominations for the Volunteer of the Year and Essence of Humanity awards, which recognize individuals and groups for their outstanding community service in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties.
Volunteer of the Year awards are presented in the following categories:
- Youth – individual nominees, 17 years-of-age or younger
- Adults – individual nominees, 18 years-of-age or older
- Groups – groups of volunteers, any age
- Founder’s Award – outstanding volunteer leadership
The Essence of Humanity Award is given to an individual who demonstrates remarkable courage, love, strength, determination, encouragement, inspiration and persistence in the face of adversity. The award is open to:
- Individuals who have overcome challenges through adversity or obstacles involving economic hardship, physical disabilities, physical and/or mental illness, etc.
- Caregivers who have exhibited attributes worthy of recognition in delivering special care for those individuals described above. These individuals may fall under the category of parent, extended family member, coach, counselor, physician, social worker, neighbor, benefactor, etc.

All nominations are due to The Volunteer Center by 3 p.m. on Friday, February 16. A panel of judges will review the nominations and select awards recipients. Awards will be presented Thursday, April 19 at an event sponsored by Highmark Blue Shield.
